Guys, Recently wrote this as an answer to a question on another Saab site and thought it might be of interest. Allthough directed at the 9-3 it is also applicable to the Classic 9-5. No need to touch the subframe to do the sump. Unplug the lambda sensors, take off the turbo/exhaust manifold...

Hey SaabScene, I bought a 2005 9-5 Aero awhile back and I've gradually been getting it ready for regular driving. I know earlier models suffered from oil sludge but this was fixed by 2004-2005. My question is, should I drop the sump to check for sludge even though my Saab has the improved PCV...

Hi all Got atypical Sunday job. Trying to change oil in 9-3 07 plate 150 bhp vector. The sump plug will not shift. It is of soft metal and starting to "round" .Tried tapping end of plug to jar it as I've had to do on some cars. Is this a common problem? Oil filter has been changed but don't...

I discovered today that my engine sump is cracked right in the middle, presumably from some idiot jacking the car up using the sump, as there is no sign of any physical damage. There had been oil spots on my drive since I bought it, which I put down to a small bit of diesel escaping from...

Howdy lads I'm going to look at two aeros in the following weeks, one manual, one auto, the auto has more extras and I've done a backround check on it and it's all good, I've yet to do one for the manual, but the manual has gotten a new clutch in the last month so that's the dmf issue sorted...

Hi guys. I`m new to this site. Bought my saab in march with 132K on ODO. Had a problem selecting 1, 3 and reverse gears, read few threads on the forum which recommended to change the oil. Went to mechanics and he came across the problem of removing the draining plug because it was blocked by...

Hi, could anyone tell me the correct size for the sump plug. I ve just attempted to do an oil change on the drive but managed to round off the nut. 13mm seemed right but rounded off.12 mm wouldn't go near it! Are they a funny size or is my spaniards duff? Thanks, Paul

I have a 1999 Saab 9-3 and just finished up rebuilding the motor, head and new turbo. All was well for the first 50 or so miles. I did a quick oil change to flush out the break in lube, but immediately after that I now get a cold start oil pump whine. It goes away after it's up to temp. I...

Hi I'm just carrying out a sump drop on my hot aero. After removing the sump I have noticed that there is a metal pipe (breather)? crossing the crankcase. It's quite loose and can be pulled out quite easily is this normal or are new seals required I'd hate it to rattle loose. any info would be great

Hi all, Got a 1999 9-5, 2 litre turbo, which is having problems... A bit of history first: I acquired the car last year, after the turbo seized due to a badly blocked oil strainer. To get it back up and running the turbo was fully rebuilt, the sump was dropped and the sump and strainer were...
