  1. Tyres, Wheels, and Brakes
Can anyone advise? Am after a tyre that for some reason is cheaper on a particular web site as a '97' load index instead of the required '91' loading for my car. Is there any reason not to buy the tyre with the greater load rating? Please advise. Thanks in advance Mitch
  2. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
OK - As some might recall my 9-5 SE originally came on unusual saab 17" wheels (6 split spoke with a large centre cover) but with 215/45ZR17 Bridgestone S02 tyres... I now think this was an accessory package aimed at the 9-3, thus the narrower size. For the last few years its still been on...

Can anyone tell me the load rating for 205/55 x R16 Winter tyres. Ian.
  4. Saab 9-3 Sedan/Combi/TurboX/AWD(2003+)/Conv(2004+)
Hi All, Just filled up the 1.8t Vector Convertible for the first time and noticed on the inside of the fuel cap a black sticker with green lettering stating 98 RON ONLY. Further down there is a smaller label saying min 95 RON. Is the 98 RON sticker just a 'use unleaded only' reminder or would...
  5. Classic Saab 9-3/GM900 (1994 - 2002)/Conv ( -2003)
Mrs GreenSaab's new steed has 205/50 16's on. They all appear to be skidmatics so need changed. Juast noticing that they are all 87W's. Is this right for a 2.2TID or should I be looking in the 91 range at least?

If you owned a 2004 Saab 9-3 and you sold it yesterday you’d be pretty happy right now. As if resale value issues weren’t tough enough already, JD Power released their vehicle dependability ratings earlier today. These ratings rank vehicles that are three years old based on problems recorded...
  7. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Went to local tyre fitter this morning for two new boots. He replaced my Avon ZZ3's with Dunlop SP9000. My steed is a 2.3 LPT 185 and the size is 215/55ZR16. I noticed however that the load rating on the new ones is 91W whereas I'm pretty sure the older ones were 93W. The tyres certainly look...
  8. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
I'm looking at buying a set of winter tyres for my 9-5 (no, I don't want a debate on the lines of "why"!). However, I'm unclear as to the load rating required. My old 15" wheels had Michelin Pilots which were 205/65x15 94V (went to alloys a couple of years ago so I still have them). The Saab...
  9. Saabscene: Performance
I have been experimenting with a number of different octane fuel ratings and types of late. One thing that caught my attention is that the car performance varied with fuel type. This variation has been covered on SSc to a large degree, so I won't rake over that again. What I am interested in...
  10. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
After 5 weeks with my 9-5 Aero(230bhp) I decided to try 98 octane unleaded , as with previous 9000 turbos I owned it made them go like **** off a shovel. Doesnt seem to make any difference to 9-5 though. Any thoughts ?

Can someone please explain the SAE viscosity rating (in laymans terms if poss.) you see on bottles of engine oil (5w40, 10w30 etc)... Ive worked out as much that the lower the first number and the higher the second, the more expensive the oil is... but why?? Whats so good about it??
