  1. Saab 9-3 Sedan/Combi/TurboX/AWD(2003+)/Conv(2004+)
Has anyone found any benefits or disadvantages to running the higher priced diesel fuels? I always used the above versions of petrol in my 9000 Aero and in return I got better fuel economy. I am about to take delivery of a 9-3 diesel and I'm interested in any pro's and con's (other than price...
  2. Saabscene: Performance
Hi I used to use Shell Optimax in the Turbo X and have recently switched to Tesco 99 because it's cheaper but also because it's 99RON as opposed to 98. I have just heard that Tesco fuel is not the best hence why it's cheap, but what do people think? Okay, I know this might all sound a bit...

So why do people say you have (well advised to) run the car's on it for optimum performance and running, because as we all know they were made to run on u/l as this "fancy" stuff wasnt here. Dont get me wrong, the car's probably might/do run better I dont know Iv'e never gave it a decent try. I...

Is it worth £1.02.9 per litre, or should I just put bog standard 95ron unleaded in my 03 reg 2.0t 9-3 SS (67k on the clock) with a splash of Octane booster
  5. Help, Advice, Saabs and Motoring
I have run my 9000 on Optimax since I bought it 3 1/2 years ago. The only time it doesn't use Optimax is when in France, but there every service station sells 98 Octane fuel for only a couple of percent more - if only it was so here. Have had my Speedparts Stg3 ECU fitted last Saturday so my...

Claimed to be the first generation fuel to use sythetic diesel technology: Gtl. It's available at all Shell stations in NL and many in continental europe. Results in far fewer pollutants, is cleaner and is able to clean diesel injectors of carbon deposits to ensure the spray pattern is as good...

I was back in Anglesey yesterday and called at the filling station in Gaerwen everyone used last year. It's now Texaco instead of Shell, so no Optimax, but they do have a Texaco super unleaded. Nearest Optimax is probably at the Shell Garage on the Anglesey end of the 'old' road bridge. Fred.

Has anyone else been promoted by Shell to the Optimax Club? Got my membership card today in the post or should that be Excuse my maths if they are a bit dodgy but I worked out under the revised rewards scheme that I need to spend £48,000 on fuel to earn enough points to drive a...
  10. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
I endured Jeremy Clarkson and the tropical fish - telling us that Shell Optimax gives more Vroom Vroom and I duly kept the marketing people happy and religiously fed my Aero on the stuff . Just recently my local Shell station (Hatton near Warwick) has been out of stock of Optimax (I've no...
  11. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
On my old 2.3 turbo, it used to run less well on Optimax (less smooth, less boost) but get better mpg by about 10%. On my new 2.3 turbo, there is no noticeable difference in performance, or in fuel consumption when running Optimax vs. standard unleaded! Both of these behaviours seem odd. Does...

Hi, Even although Shell is an Anglo-Dutch company, in their wisdom, they do not sell Optimax here. So what are we missing out on ? What is Optimax and how does it compare with Unleaded 98 (which is not branded 97, as it is in the UK, so I assume is still the full strength 98 Octane) ? What...

I normally use optimax in my 9000 AERO, goes like the wind, no problems. Yesterday as the computer said 10 miles till i would be walking, i got £10 of normal unleaded. On the way home i was "getting a move on" up a steep hill when (foot to floor in 2nd and turbo boost guage well into the red)...
