  1. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
I guess I know the answer to this but 2 plugs were coated, literally running, with oil when I took them out to change today. I had just started the car to move it five feet along so I suppose there was no time for the oil to burn off At 154K miles I'm assuming piston rings have finally gone, in...
  2. Help, Advice, Saabs and Motoring
Had my 9-5 tdi saloon for about 3 months now, 2005 model - pre facelift 63k miles Full service history I've probably done around 3k miles in it so far. Have a long journey tomorrow so thought id check the oil, last drove the car almost 3 hours ago and its on a reasonably level surface...
  3. Saab 9-3 Sedan/Combi/TurboX/AWD(2003+)/Conv(2004+)
Hi I had a problem with my car recently and the AA came to rescue me. He told me that the EGR valve (Exhaust gas recirculation) was very dirty and it was normal. But he said the EGR valve was not only dirty but also oily and that is not normal. He was not too sure what the cause was and...
  4. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
Hi. So I've got my hands on a secondhand intercooler with all pipework to install on my '94 CSE 2.0lpt (has APC but no intercooler). Before I embark on installation, I noticed that the inside of the pipework has a thin layer of sticky brown oily type substance? Is this "normal" for an...
  5. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
I fitted a JR filter to my recently acquired '95 Aero yesterday and when I had disconnected all the plumbing to get the old filter out noticed a small amount of oil on the inlet side of the turbo. Not smoking and no nasty noises so I guess just some oil weeping pass the inlet side bearing so not...
  6. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Hi, I'm a complete novice to all things saab, but have a sneaking regard for the cars, so much so that I'm looking at getting a used 9-5. It's been through the mill, had one careful owner, but on our atrocious roads and still has a few niggling problems. The main thing that concerns me though...
  7. Classic Saab 900 (1979 - 1993)
I decided to take some isoprophyl alcohol to the throttle body yesterday cuz I had noticed that it was a bit greasy on the inlet side. I took most of the greasy film out and shined it a bit. As I opened the butterfly and wipped a bit under there my rag came out black!!! I decided to take the...
  8. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Hi I just noticed that I have left a damp patch that seems oily but is not engine oil (too light for that) on the drive. Seems to be from front slightly to the passenger side. Taken a look around as best I can without getting the car off the ground but everything looks dry and levels are all...
  9. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
I've seen a 9000 2.3 Turbo (auto) on Ebay, which states engine problems as follows: Is this run away screaming expensive, or would it just be a couple of hundred quid? (To fix the problem, not to get a re-con). Just wondering how bad it is likely to be, and if it would be worth persuing.

Adrian, thanks for your advice on checking plugs for grease - today I found 'em all black and sticky inside from the engine oil overfilling, and did what I couild to clean the stuff off. About those pic.s of injector-patterns, I am interested in seeing the details, so if you could mail em for...
