  1. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Hi. I'm looking to replace an autobox for a 9-5 se (1998). The service history shows the current box was replaced four years ago and has the part number 512159. This appears to be from a 2000 model. As more than one type of gearbox is compatable then ,does anyone know where I can get a list of...

I mentioned this a little while ago, but Hakan has been kind enough to send through a full translation of the original article that appeared in the Swedish magazine, Tekniken’s Varld. As mentioned previously, engineers in Trollhattan are leading GM’s research in several different areas. The...

You might find this surprising, but an employee at SaabUSA recently told me that they hadn’t considered Bluetooth as big an issue as what we’ve discovered it to be here at TS, primarily because few people have talked to them about it. And he’s right. The round table discussion at the recent...
  6. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
There's a very good description on how to dissasembleand reassemble 9000 gearboxes if anyone should feel the need on this web page www.thesaabsite.com/9000/9000transrepair.htm
  7. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
It would appear that the reverse gear in the box is worn and is the cause of difficulty to get it into reverse . I seem to have 4 options: 1 - Leave it until it's not just mildly aggravating but downright annoying (could be months, years even) 2 - Crack the 'box off and get the cog / synchro...
  8. Saabscene: Performance
I have just changed from a 2.3 9000 FPT auto - (my third auto FPT) to a 95 Aero. First thoughts are that the midrange seems slower than the 9000, although the power above 4500 RPM is greater. Also the pull away is quicker as the gearbox pick ups quicker and I haven't had TCS before. I realize...
  9. Saab Recommendations
My 9-3 Tid gearbox is getting a bit "crunchy"; any recommendations of a good gearbox recon/rebuilding company in the northern home counties? Saab are asking about £3.5K for an exchange recon unit, plus fitting
  10. Classic Saab 900 (1979 - 1993)
I read somewhere that the Ruby gearbox had been changed somehow. Does anybody know if that makes it stronger or more reliable? Will my t16 gearbox fit if I ever need a spare unit? Thanks.
  11. Saab 9000 (1984 - 1998)
Can you use transplant a gearbox from a 2.3 turbo or other 9000 into a 1995 aero ? Or is the box totally specifically matched to the aero ? i am going to see a 1995 aero with a knackerd box and am wondering if the above could be done

does anyone know if a 1990 c900 Carlsson gearbox will fit in a 1986 T16S. Synchro on 2nd has gone on mine and it jumps out of reverse! Would the clutch from the T16 fit with the Carlsson 'box as I have a brand new one?
  14. Classic Saab 900 (1979 - 1993)
Hi folks, I'm new around here. I used to own a 900 years ago and am about to get one again. There is a 92 LPT for sale. It's a very good price because apparently it sometimes jumps out of first. I know that 900s can suffer gearbox problems, is jumping out of first a symptom of this? I'm...
  15. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Over on the Honest John website, on the car-by-car breakdown page for the 9-5, he says: "Aisin-Warner autoboxes prone to failure because friction-fitted metal bush carrying a gear wheel can slip along its shaft interfering with the flow of transmission fluid to the torque converter and, when...
  16. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
I've been complaining to Saab for about the last 20,000 miles about how hard it has been to engage/disengage 3rd and 4th on my MY2002 3.0TiD. It went in recently, and I think they were coming to the conclusion a new box might have to go in, but as a last resort they changed the oil for a...

Just how dodgy is the autobox on the 9000? I have been rummaging through various websites in my quest for information before buying, and at least one has said 'don't buy an auto, it breaks very easily'. There seem to be far more autos than manuals on sale, and they seem to work OK. Also...
