I got a code for a bad Engine Coolant Sensor. Replaced the sensor, but didn't cure the problem. The temperature gauge reads low, then after 6-8 minutes it cuts out all together. When I shut down and then restart the engine, the same thing happens (low reading then no reading after 6-8 minutes)...

Hi can any one help me with this problem, When turning on the ignition the engine mang. warning does not light up with the rest of the dash warning lights. I think a previous owner has disconnected it. How do I check the bulb & its connections ? I need to get this sorted to find out why it is...
  5. Classic Saab 9-5 (1997 - 2009)
Just replaced the motor on my '00 Aero at around 90k with a reconditioned one at about the same miles. Seems to run fine except chk engine light is on continuously and the oil light comes on at low revs. Put a new oil sending unit on but no change. My independent, extreemly independent...

UPDATE: Some facts have been checked and corrected. Well, at least I know what the problem is with the convertible. And it has a lot to do with this picture of my (former) jumper cables. Read on for the explaination. As you may recall, just before Christmas, I had the 9-5 in the...

Wow, it’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here, and it’s been strictly due to the workload forced upon many of us with the weird and wooly business climate that exists at the moment. On Saab (not) in the newsI’ve not heard much about Saab in the mainsteam news here in the US, period. Of...

In another welcome diversion from the gloom and doom of the automotive market crunch and crushing cash burn rates, I present a few little digital gems that will enhance any Saab lover’s life. Featured: A cheap dyno/skid-pad program for iPhone and iPod Touch, some great podcasts for your PC...

Like Swade, I’m pleased to take a weekend break from the financial ills plaguing the General. In this post, you’ll find another TS regular first-time meet up, a Hirsch of a different stripe and notes about my recent 9-5 frustrations. First, the “Hirsch”. I’ve seen this automobile before...

With the announcement of the upcoming Pride of Ownership publication, I’ve finally had the incentive that I need to actually produce something worthwhile in the PoO category. I could also use a little help to determine the final entry from among the pictures that I’ve taken. I’ve seen your...

An unusual Monday morning version of EnG snippets brought to you by the Columbus Day holiday here in the United States. Inside, I demonstrate the value of a TS T-shirt, I talk about specific model quirks (with a bonus from the previous owner of my 9-5) and we go green. First up, the model...

Update — this hyped headline hid a story that wasn’t as sensational as expected. Read on. We’ve all looked for signs from within GM’s inner management circle for any future changes in Saab and it’s position within the General Motors framework. This has been debated, mostly by Saab enthusiasts...

Usually I don’t bother to announce my departures but with Swade out-of-pocket it seems right to do so. In the meantime, I’ve got a few links that can help to pass the time and perhaps even teach you something in the process. Read on! Alongside Swade’s vacation, I’ll be working some long...

While Swade’s enroute to Whistler, we have: A little-known Automotive website names Saab a “Best Brand Buy”. Forbes.com names the Saab 9-5 “worthy of a second look”. Our favorite Nothern European 9-5 photog is back with new pictures. Did someone say “car lust”? Of course, it’s an SPG...

Wow, it’s been a while. Hope that you’ve all had a great summer. Mine was a blur. A number of great things in this package, including a tip of the hat to our friends at the meetup today, suggested Saab shopping for Swade while he’s in North America, and a new website that promises to...

I never know whether to synchronize my comment headings with Tasmania time or to write them in US time. Generally, I’m writing from the Central time zone in the United States which is roughly two-thirds of a day behind Swade in Oz. Therefore, I often post in the morning hours of the next day...

Well, it’s 3 AM and I’m awake because my 8-year-old daughter “couldn’t sleep”. Of course, she lasted all of three minutes after I put her back to bed, but now I’m up. Ah, well, time for some writing. Before I get to the Saab stuff, let’s talk barbeque for a moment, shall we? I was in the...

Wow. I’ve been absorbed in work and family life for the last couple of weeks and haven’t kept up with the site at all, so forgive me if I duplicate Swade’s previous entries. Since Swade’s away, I thought it best that I take a crack at putting a few things up. ————– If Swade can have his...
