I am currently paying for slow broadband and 2 telephone lines, and lots of my phone calls are international. So I thought about going for the highly advertised TalkTalk with the international option, to get the whole lot including unlimited international calls (to landlines in certain...
Well we've had a hopeless 2 weeks in terms of internet connection. One Friday, I couldn't get the green light to come on on my ADSL Actiontec modem. Then it would come on, and once I'd connected for a minute or so, it would go off, and the connection would be lost. An error message would come up...
After months (almost 9!) of problems on a 1Mbps Wanadoo line, it is finally fixed.
I had tried downloading a 20Mb file this morning - after 4Mb in 90minutes, it gave up the ghost.
Did a speed test on www.adslguide.org and got a downstream figure of..
Shocking thing was that...
OK, now that the 21st Century has arrived in my part of North Yorkshire in the form of Broadband, I am looking at how best to exploit it!
Currently I use BT Business Connect as my dial-up ISP – which gives me the following:
Low-contention ratio (~30:1 vs consumer services at 50+:1)
I'll have to change my Broadband Supplier at the end of the month so am on the lookout for new ones.
I want at least 1Mb connection, preferably with unlimited access.
Cheapest I've found so far is Central Point , who offer 2Mb and unlimited downloads for £35.49 per...
I need to advise my Sister-in-Law on getting broadband in a small town in Notts. Don't think they have access to cable.
They have little spare cash as B-in-L has spent it all in pub and off-licence So cheapest possible needed really.
B-in-L now out of frame, sort of. Nephew needs...
Re: BT Abolish 6Km distance limit for Broadband
Good news. My Step-Daughter lives in Shillingford , North Devon, and the local town, Bampton, has been campaigning for a long-time for broadband. Finally, they can drag themselves into the 20th century.
Totally confused by the choices...
What I need to do is, have wireless Broadband access and printing.
So I'm guessing I need a wireless ADSL router with built in modem, and some sort of usb print hub??
The idea is the router (if poss) will sit hidden away with no cabled access to...
For all of those who are too far away from their exchanges to get ADSL,...
Have a look at www.getbroadbandanywhere.com
The system has a number of pros & cons, but could be the answer for some.
I did a quick search & could not find anything comparable for less.....(unless of course, any of you...
Don't know if this is quite up your street, but you seem to help with every other aspect of my life!
I have a minor irritation with my broadband connection. Quite frequently it seems to "go to sleep". I click on a link (Or change address in address bar) and for a minute or so...

For those of you like me who have no hope in anything of getting BT's RADSL within the next 10 years, you may want to have a look at this.
I'll be backing it if it comes near me. Looks like it might be worth keeping an eye on.
Package Inclusive MB Ex£/MB £m £yr £setup...
I've signed up for Broadband, so I'll be joining all you fast people soon.
I will do some tests on the speed of pages and downloads before and after for comparison.
Roll on the 17th
Just realised - I can now play Unreal Tournament online without the 2 second delay!
NTL (UK) have a decent sounding deal at the moment -
128k Broadband for £14.99 per month
600k Broadband for £24.99 per month
Is it worth the extra tenner (on top of the 128k cost) for up to 600?
Is it indeed worth an extra fiver to go up to 128k from normal modem speeds?
Is the benefit...
I've read a few of you have broadband. What are the costs involved, and do you need a special line installed?
Must admit my BT connection isn't too bad most of the time, just takes a few seconds to load up a page with piccies.
A good page to test is http://news.bbc.co.uk/default.stm which...
