CAT Bypass pipes on older turbo cars

This relates to what Schminks was saying here.

By age/date of registration; which cars MUST be equipped with a Catalyst and which cars don't. For example, can I put a CAT bypass on my July 1992 registered car and put expect it to pass an MOT test in that state?

Having a catalyst is NOT part of the MOT.

However passing a set of emissions standards is!
August 92 on is the general area when cats were introduced on all UK cars.
For cars registered after August 92, there is a specific 'Basic Emissions Test' with quite strict limits, now if your car can meet these cat/no cat, all is rosy
If not, then the tester is obliged to carry out a full cat test... this is a potential minefield with all makes of cars.. identifying engines etc.. so there are loopholes..
But SAAB being saab list one emisions std for all cat cars regardless, so no easy get out.

Cars after Aug 95 will be require to pass the same BET, but if it fails that then it's the CAT test again, but with stricter limits.. and not get out clause if tester can;t ID engine etc..

    so whats the'get outs'?

1, convert to lpg.... LPG cars onlt requite the 1986-92 CO% & HCppm test, very basic limits that any car should pass.

2, if you can prove your ENGINE is aged prior to aug 1992 then it will be tested on limits specific to the age of engine not the vehicle.
You will need to present proof to tester prior to commencement of test.

    All clear?
