9-3 ECU stolen - car about to be scrapped

    Hi all

Incredibly I had the ECU stolen from my 2007 SAAB 9-3 2.0T Aero convertible. I have sourced a replacement ECU that I believe is correct, however my local SAAB expert cannot get past the security on the new ECU to clear it out and then marry it to my car. He has the genuine Tech 2 and the global TIS software etc.

I've ploughed a chunk of money into this car and I've just about had enough of it. I'm no SAAB expert but I know about computers. I believe that if we could just totally wipe the new ECU it would then let him go in and program it to my car. Am I right?

    So, 3 questions:

    1. What would be the most likely ECU number for a
    2007 SAAB 9-3 2.0T Aero convertible?

    2. Is there any way to find the car's original ECU's number from the car's VIN?

    3. Is there a way of brute force wiping the new ECU (I'm thinking of a UV machine - but I don't want to de-solder the chips inside!). Would that possibly work?

    Thanks in anticipation!

    Just one. Question
was the donor ECU divorced from the donor car via tech 2 ?
I think only then it can be added to your car
Not unless the seller knows the vin number of the car it came from .,

Hi - we believe we have found the donor car VIN from the donor ECU. It looks like it may not have been divorced from the previous vehicle though... Is there a process to "blank" them?

You have to make sure the donor ECU Is of the same model year same transmission, same engine , or else it won't work , the person who sold you it was he sure it was as above?
Read the thread below to give you some insight . As to the do's and dont's .

Thanks Lizzard. Some useful reading there. Could anyone provide some further help with my questions?

Hello the part number for an ECU of that my is 55565020
has this chap with global tls got security acess ? cos he will require that ,
you cannot " brick them " or wipe it , cos it's not a virgin ECU
you really require one with the same engine , gearbox , trim level then it's just a case of adding it wether it's been divorced or not .
is this chap your using a Saab specialist?

Yep, he is a SAAB expert. My understanding is that he goes through some options and it gives him security, but that then isn't working when he tries to take some actions. Also, his system was showing 2 VINs (my car and the VIN from the donor car) and it seems to dislike that, but will not allow him to remove them. Thanks again for your help.

I guess the one consolation/upside is, the "new" owner of the stolen ECU will have the same issues )

    Hello.
I can help you to resolve the problem.
You need to make sure that the ECM that you bought is good. TECH2 should be able to marry it to your car after getting security access in TIS2000. If that can not be done, the ECM is not good..I do this on a daily basis with lots of Saabs.
The only condition necessary to do a successful marry is to flash the new ECM with same year bin files.
If you have computer knowledge will be piece of cake for U.
    Just go to trionictuning.com
Get the latest version of TrionicCANflasher....then install on your laptop and buy a good interface there are several..in UK you may be able to get a good ELM327 or a Swedish Lawicel.
When you have that I can send you the bin files for your car...after flashing the files. The flasher has a function where you can change the VIN and input your car's.
Please let me know when ready and I will help you with the bin files.
You can PM me on trionictuning or here.
    Regards.

No problem with two VIN numbers that is normal..the TECH2 shows your original VIN plus the new ECM's VIN which is different from your car's...the VIN number can be easily changed with trionicCANFlasher - then your SAAB expert can try to Marry the ECM to the car...if the ECM was belonged to a car from 2003-2006 the firmware is different and will not work until you flash the BIN files for your car's model. No problem with Part Number...updating the BINs will take care of that.

    ECM ageing
I do not recommend buying an ECM of same part number for replacement. T8s usually last around 10 years +/- 1-3yrs.
therefore if you buy an ECM of same part number (55565020) that will be at least 10 years old...is like changing a woman of 60 for another of 60 - what good is that? what you need is the newest ECM you can find - the latest T8 P/N number that was sold as new ECM by SAAB is 55569738 - MADE in ROMANIA - any other T8 that you find regardless of P/N if it shows MADE IN FRANCE - is OLD - the Motorola Plant moved to Romania some years before, henceforth all T8s made in France are very old and will NOT last for long. Better get a good 55569738 and have it flashed with newest files for your car.
The old myth of T8s needing to be UNMARRIED before being able to use them in another car was solved long ago by the Developers of TrionicCANFlasher. I recommend you get to that forum and ask for help..there are lots of members in the UK...I am in Mexico City - very far, otherwise i would help you by sending the unit and would flashe it for you.

Hope this can help you all to get past this issue.
    Best regards

You're in the Midlands. Get in touch with Karl at NoobTune. I don't think there's much he doesn't know about this subject. He'll certainly be able to help and if you have to see him he's only in Long Eaton.
