Hello, I’m new here on the forum but have been into Saab’s for the past 10-15 years. I currently own two 9-5s (01 and 08) and grew up learning to drive and working on my parents old 9000. Between my immediate family we all currently own 8 Saabs at the moment, and have had them for as long as I can remember- our parents have driven them since the 80s.
I’m a fairly competent home mechanic and can handle most jobs on these cars- I really cut my teeth with my 9-5s. I do normal maintenance like oil changes, filters, brakes, exhaust work, valve cover gaskets, fan speed controller, all the common 9-5 stuff and feel pretty confident doing most things- I helped my brother pull a turbo once and a couple other more major jobs.
There is a classic 900 for sale near me, 1992 900s non turbo, 3 speed auto, 180k on it. It looks clean and I think it has been reasonably well taken care of from pictures. What things should I look for when inspecting it? My biggest concern is that I’ve never owned a car this old that actually has a distributor etc. The seller is only asking 1200 for the car and I love the lines and shape of the 2 door hatchback, plus we have some old 9000 wheels etc they should be able to go on it. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!
