Thinking about buying a c900

Hello, I’m new here on the forum but have been into Saab’s for the past 10-15 years. I currently own two 9-5s (01 and 08) and grew up learning to drive and working on my parents old 9000. Between my immediate family we all currently own 8 Saabs at the moment, and have had them for as long as I can remember- our parents have driven them since the 80s.
I’m a fairly competent home mechanic and can handle most jobs on these cars- I really cut my teeth with my 9-5s. I do normal maintenance like oil changes, filters, brakes, exhaust work, valve cover gaskets, fan speed controller, all the common 9-5 stuff and feel pretty confident doing most things- I helped my brother pull a turbo once and a couple other more major jobs.

There is a classic 900 for sale near me, 1992 900s non turbo, 3 speed auto, 180k on it. It looks clean and I think it has been reasonably well taken care of from pictures. What things should I look for when inspecting it? My biggest concern is that I’ve never owned a car this old that actually has a distributor etc. The seller is only asking 1200 for the car and I love the lines and shape of the 2 door hatchback, plus we have some old 9000 wheels etc they should be able to go on it. Any advice or recommendations are appreciated!

I've have a manual 2 door sitting in my driveway. I love it, but have never driven it since I drove it back from the mechanics. About 3 years now.

Reverse gear synchro is gone. I had the "Townsend' mod done but its still crunching. No parts available!

I'd say to keep it auto. A good auto transmission specialist would be able to adapt internal parts from the RWD Borg Warner 35's.

Other things that worry me now is that it's hard to get parts like tailights (please show me if you know where).

I'm going to keep mine as I am sure someone will start making small run parts for the transmissions to keep a world of C900's on the road.
