Decrease in fuel economy after intermediate service

Hi Guys

I have a 2008 1.9 ttid Sport Kombi (180BHP) with 199k on the clock. It's in good condition and I try and drive at a conservative speed most of the time plus I use a decent fuel BP Ultimate Diesel. Most of my driving is in the city so my fuel economy is not so good, however I do take the car on the motorway every 2 weeks for a 30 minute blast for the DPF so this gets it back down again. I generally get between 8.4-9.8 litres per 100km which is very reasonable, however a few days ago I had an intermediate service done at my local SAAB specialist where they changed the oil, oil, cabin, air and fuel filters plus at my request new automatic transmission fluid(trying to make the old girl last as long as possible as I love her). Driving back from the garage on the motorway(its about 40 miles) I saw the fuel economy improve so I though all was good. For the next few days the weather has been pretty foggy with a lot of damp in the air and I have not driven too much, however I just went to the supermarket and was shocked to see the fuel economy at 11.4 litres per 100km!!

Its never been this high so I was wondering could this be related to the weather conditions plus I have been using the a/c to de-mist, or could it be anything to do with the service?

Thanks in advance guys

Also if you re-set the computer ( I'e MpG ) then it takes an average of that journey.
if I do that with mine then the first couple of journeys I can get down to 9 MPG
but after a couple of trips it evens out at 32 . That's with a 150 diesel and mainly town with by-pass type driving.

Thanks lizzard-t, I have reset the computer and drove about 200 years and it read 62 litres per 100km...nearly passed out at the wheel:)) after another 200 yards it dropped to 20 litres and now its hovering around 14....didnt gp far though to be fair its is was quite foggy(dense air etc). Ive got a big trip next weekend where ill be doing about 350 miles one way so that should get it down and hopefully give me an idea.

Cheers:thumbsup:
