    Autoboxes ? Ideally the 5 speed Jobby on a Aero 210 (2006 & others)

Looking towards changing the easily-est serviceable quantity of ATF ........ At the moment I've just grabbed four litres as a simple drop out & replenish quantity.... I know its almost impossible to change the almost eight litres of full system fluid, without a massively time intensive program of disassembly.

So anyone done a AT service on this model ? ...... Any "Argh" Moments that I may need to be aware of ?

I have no clue of the current condition of my ATF ....... If I'm feeling motivated I may take a sample & have it analysed ....... But at 50K I guess they are just going to suggest I flush the system with new ...... Currently I'm pleased to report no faults apparent with my transmission, this is all pure maintenance.

I am aware that some advisory committees suggest the transmission is sealed for life & doesn't require a fluid change/freshen up ....... I'm ignoring this suggestion

    IMHO
Dipstick and fill hole are pretty impossible to get to unless from below. the dipstick is secured in place by a bolt. it is all close to the front of the car but such a pig top get to. unless you have access to a 4 poster or an inspection pit or able to put it up on 4 ramps perfectly level let a garage do it! overfilling or under filling is very bad news.I

am a big fan of DIY but this is one of those real pigs of a job and expensive of got wrong.

I had mine done at the garage at just under 50K - apparently ahead of the service schedule. Can't remember what it cost but certainly wasn't a shed-load. Don't know if they completely flushed out the old stuff but shifts were definitely much smoother after the change.

Saab's service schedule says that ATF has to be changed in my six-speeder every six years or 72K miles. Had it done yesterday by local Saab specialist and the box has been playing up since, initially when accelerating uphill when box drops out of gear and engine redlines then it slams back into gear. The dealer has flushed it twice this afternoon but it's still doing it though not as frequently.
I've always been doubtful about changing ATF due to possibility of dislodging sediment that can then cause blockages in the box's oilways. Clearly it's not possible to flush the old fluid out completely without removing and stripping the box but Saab have scheduled the change for a reason, I guess.
Another flush is planned for Friday once I see how the box performs tomorrow but if that fails it might be a coincidental clutch issue and a new box (!!). And just to complete my joy, our convertible's ATF will need changing in June!

My Saab specialist refused point blank to touch my 6 speed auto box..
Thats why I chose a specialist in auto boxes..
I agree totally that you have to have a flush done more than once due to the design of a lot of modern autos.
I actually had mine done for the second time yesterday.....
Anyone who still agrees with the sealed for life rubbish look at my photo..Remember thats after the SECOND change of fluid !!!

On a previous car some years ago I had a similar symptom and that turned out to be too little ATF in the box !!!
As I said previously my Saab specialist in Kirkham wont touch auto boxes !!!

Kirkham'ites for ya ....... No sense of adventure I tells yas ......

Strictly speaking here..... Just for the hell of it ...... Transmission flushing isn't the kind of thing you really need to revisit..... It is however manically expensive in the transmission fluid of your choice & can, pending on car/condition of transmission, require a sooper special bitta kit (Think Expensive to buy) To achieve a flush .....So a lot of, 'Cough' Pro's tend to err' on the side of caution and use a partial change technique, that ..... Well isn't very difficult

Low fluid was my first worry but after the two flushes on Wednesday the service manager assured me that they had used the right ATF and the correct quantity. This episode reminds me of the Toyota RAV4.2 autobox ECU failure which I experienced a few years back but on the Saab it is nowhere near as severe. On the RAV the box would destroy itself extremely quickly if you continued to drive the car but ECUtesting in Derby fix these regularly. I've checked out ECUt's website and there is no mention of an autobox problem on petrol Saabs so I'm hoping that another couple of flushes will cure the problem.

Here's the plan .... I intend to pull the plug out of my auto box ........ Replace said plug with a Fumoto valve .....& refill (Obv's) ........ 3309 or summink innit ? Aero (210) 5 Sp ....... I refuse to be spooked by the crowd that believe that fluid changes are beyond them ........ OMG he's gone nuts ! ........ Nahh dude..... I'm changing the oil

The place they put the Transmission filler in is "Dia-freakin'-bollical" ...... Filled for life my arse! ..... I'm going to rig up some tubing & try & do this .....Either way you look at it ..... Its a cock ended setup

I totally agree that for a lovelly comfy car there are some terrible design flaws...
Would it have killed to put in a dip stick tube to the auto box?

Third flush of my 9.3X 6-speed. So far, so good...............Every possible digit crossed! Makes driving difficult but she ain't dropped out of gear yet............................................... .........

I do so hope this has fixed the problem. I really love this car!!!!!
