a interim service is basically oil filters and checks and top ups where required i.e washer bottle for windows

were your brakes sticking ? normal to spray brake cleaner on disks but that's about it though most would just check condition of pads disks

what was wrong with exhaust heat shield ?

    did you ask for.....

engine flush a main agent would not do or a saab indie garage not recommended

diesel conditioner again not done on a service unless specifically requested

apple fresh £2.95 + vat no comment .......should have been a gesture unless you specifically asked

smv no idea other than what has already been suggested

any parts found faulty during the service apart from what was asked for they should have rang you for the go ahead.

please name then......you are not slagging them off by doing so just warning others of your experience with them

It's not screenwash , is it ? . Not trying to teach a garage how to buy in stuff , but would not they buy it I big drums ? . It's a wonder they did not charge for the water to top up the screenwash ? , saying its , specialists water distilled by the firm Brests of virgins !and charge that out !

I had my v6 served the other week, I supplied all the parts/fluids (from Neos & opie oils)

It was around £280 labour for the oil change, fit new oil/fuel/cabin filters/clean air filter plus change gearbox oil and fit new brake pads, lines & fresh fluid.

So I found the apple fresh they used and it s the following Sol X Fragranced Screen Wash -that the slightest problem.
The break wear not sticking, I just told them to verify them because I don't like how it breaks (but maybe that's just me.) and I just bought the car and breaks are one of most important things on car...regarding safety.
I ask them to do two things , in my opinion totally about maximum 20 minutes( being in a service and have all the tools necessary at your hand). Change the rear tire with the front ones ,automatically you can also check the breaks and discs, and also 'repair' the exhaust heat shield , just needed to fix it cause it got a lil' rusty and passed beyond the hex nuts , just needed untied them put some washers ..tied them back. (I would done that it myself but I don't know anyone that has a garage with a path underneath to reach it ), and knowing is a 5 minutes job I ask them for it.
I didn't ask for the engine flush or diesel conditioner.
They called to ask if I want them to replace the coil spring and the front drop link but they did not mention or recommend to change the spring in pair.
The service were I was is the one in Huddersfield called Malbrad. Don't know what to think now...I guess I just did not expect that price for that service.

I ve just ask another service close to my work for the timing belt kit change with two quotes...with my parts or without..and the prices are : - 184£ labour including 20%VAT
    - 339.71 labour + parts including 20% VAT
I think I will by myself the parts. Anyone knows any good price shops...or should I trust eBay good rating sellers?

Thank you all for your reply s.

    Re: price for service

If you look at caddymans second reply , ref the fiat cambelt kit , that's the way forward . Never known caddyman to "skimp " on any parts for his car . He uses top notch parts , so he should be able to point you in the right direction . I think myself any good garage would welcome you even if you supplied the parts yourself . And of course you would be more inclined to go back for future work ( repeat business ) .
I do the same as a gas enginer , if they supply the parts I'll fit them .

lizzard-t, thank you for your faith in me lol!

Ref the Fiat cambelt/tensioner kit, this in the following link is the kit I bought for my 1.9 150 bhp 16v engine, identical engine in mine as used in the 9-3 and Vectra. I again point out, it is the responsibility of the owner of the car to check the parts are correct for their own application and I won't take responsibility for any parts bought incorrectly. I've cross referenced this part for myself, bought the kit (from a completely different Fiat dealership last year) and it was fitted by a Fiat indie specialist. The price by the way, is very very good considering it is from a main Fiat/Alfa dealer. The date of packing on the kits by the way, is 23/1/14...I know this because I 'phoned the dealership and checked!

Genuine waterpumps, Saab branded, can be had for £26 from other sellers.

    Re: price for service

yes I agree with lizards comment on caddyman not cutting any corners. The part in his link above is of a good price and after all the engine in your saab is in fact a fiat 1.9jtd as are those branded cdti in Vauxhall amongst others so compatibility will not be a problem and you can also price up a water pump from them and compare with above price. I do believe fiat also uprated there pump but regardless wont be much of an issue with either

I was in Brighouse today visiting a company called Treka bus, travelled up last night and stayed in the travel lodge across the road from the mini garage where they have a mini stuck above the door lol, not long got back after a gruelling 6.5hr no stop journey battling the continuous road works lol so my arse is sore

hey caddyman the penny has just dropped regards your username lol
