Suspension Swap 52 plate Vector to R plate 2.0 Lpt

Quick question for the technical experts out there.
I have just bought a full new 9-5 Aero suspension kit for my '52 plate 3.0 tid Vector. My friend has a '98 R reg 9-5 2.0 lpt.
Would it be possible to fit my discarded Vector suspension to his car and would it make any noticeable difference? (my car has 49,000 miles on the clock so hopefully still a fair bit of life in it).

IIRC the front stuts use a different lower mounting setup on the facelift cars to early cars.

fliptop found this out when trying to fit my old 2002 facelift Aero brakes to his 9-3 3dr which is supposed to have the same brakes as the 9-5. They do, but only with the early 9-5.

Springs will fit but the struts with the damper inserts won't. Not the best way round to do it - Aero springs really need the sport damper...

As for the brakes, the 308mm discs were fine, but I had to get the correct type of caliper carrier as later 9-5 type was different, and I was not able to use the later backing plates. Mind you, I wasn't able to get the original ones off without destroying them either... . Still, they're performing very nicely now thank you

    Thanks all.

What I'm actually doing is upgrading my Vector suspension with the Saab sports chassis kit (Im assuming that that is the Aero suspension?). Seems to include everything, nuts, bolts, spacers and bushes etc. I'm told that it will fit straight onto my Vector without problems, is that not the case? (doesn't have self-levelling).

I also thought that the 3.0 tid shared the Aero's discs due to the extra weight/performance, am I mistaken there too?

I will be letting my local Saab specialist do the job as I believe the subframe needs dropping a tad to fit the anti-roll bar.

The plan was then to donate my standard Vector suspension to my mate for his '98 car. Are we saying that only the springs will be of any use and the struts won't fit without major mods?

I think the problem is that the springs will fit but the dampers will not fit at the front. The springs and dampers were changed when the model was facelifted and you probably need to match them, so your springs on the old car may only work properly if you change the whole front strut. There may not be a damper available to match your front springs that will fit the old strut.

    Thanks sgould.

The Aero suspension kit comes with new struts and dampers all round. I plan giving him the struts, springs, anti roll bars etc etc. I think Leon suggested that the front strut mounting may be different on the earlier car?

OK I'm a bit confused now . I thought you were asking if your Vector suspension would fit your friend's 98 car, answer the springs will fit but the front struts/dampers won't. The facelift cars have different (alloy) hubs that have completely different bolt patterns for fixing the struts to, and for mounting the caliper carrier. Not sure if the springs/rear damper mounts changed from M02-on.

The suspension kit you have bought for your Vector, provided it is for the later M02-on car, will fit perfectly OK on your car. Depends if you have the right one though. If it's for an earlier 9-5 then you have the same problem - struts won't attach to the hubs...

Contrary to what I said previously (now I've read it all again properly ) the Vector springs will be fine on your friend's older car, but I suspect he won't notice much difference, he probably needs dampers rather than springs, and of course they won't fit.

Yes your 3.0TiD has the 308mm discs, along with the vented rear discs as per M02-on Aeros.

    Thanks Fliptop,

That's cleared it up for me!

The suspension kit I've bought is for 2002 cars onwards and the Saab specialist states it will fit all 2002 onward cars apart from the ones with self levelling.
Whilst an obvious improvement over the earlier cars I still find that the Vector wallows too much for the performance. I know that a better option would have been to go for an after market set up such as Hirsch etc but for £250 quid on eBay I thought it was worth a punt!
