apart from the ttid manifold has them on the underside and are of a slightly different design

check dpf and the flex hasnt got a hole... the fume smell may also be a cracked manifold its common ...

2k aint gonna get you very far
but its a nice start
use the insignia 327 injectors or the ttid 299 ones ( 327 are cheaper ) they are very good and good for alot of fuel more than you can burn...

get a new washer and re seal the injector...
hopefully you have the common fault inj 3 wiring
to test put a small tie wrap on it and hold the plug on like that see if it reoccurs

i would check the fuse box in the engine bay. namely the tracks of copper that bend around the circuit board they corrode quite bad.... take lid off under 2-3 bolts and the board lifts out.. inspect...

the bottom ends normally go on these due to oil dilution... what is your oil level on the stick

if a 2nd hand engine can be sourced yes it may well be the cheapest .... the engine will be shot ( i had/bought one with same issue ) i did rebuild mine but fully raced specd it but it was not cheap...

dpf issue
the smoke on start is prob wearing plugs.. nothing major
black smoke normal if mapped or dpf half jazzed
and yes 2005 can have a dpf

diesels dont have vac leaks per se as youre describing them they dont run on vac hence why they have to run a vac pump to create the vac to make the turbo work
