I need a gunmetal grey door mirror back for a 2004 model 9-5, thanks to SWMBO having to take avoiding action in the face of a very large HGV

Depends what you mean by "traditional" tools, and what you are actually going to do. Your thread title asks about replacing shock absorbers, your text talks about replacing springs!
In any case...
-
Correct. You need 16" wheels. I have a 2004MY Aero estate auto and use a set of 16-spoke 16" alloys (as fitted to the early SEs) because they are unloved and therefore cheap on the bay of plenty. Get...

Suggest you look on ebay.de - search on "saab 9-5 scheinwerfer" (scheinwerfer is the german for headlight). PM me if you need help.
-
The short answer is, AFAIK, you can't make a direct replacement. And if you did, you'd need the pair.
-
Check out this thread. Take it all with a good pinch of salt because people only post here with problems. But it gives you some idea of the type of things that can go wrong with a 9-5. My own 9-5...

I was supplied with an excellent used steering rack which I arranged over the phone from Parts Asap, cleaner and seemingly newer than the one it replaced.
-
I'd second sgould's opinion - the 9-5 Aero is not an inherently harsh-riding car. And mine (2004MY Aero estate) rides no differently on the 205/55 16" winter tyres than it it does on the 225/45 17"...

You could try insuring it in your wife's name, specifying yourself as the main driver. Or if you haven't done so (unlikely I know), put her on the policy anyway even if she doesn't drive it. When I...

Could be either the transverse link bushes (easy with the right tool) or the trailing arm bushes. You need to find out which.
-
Well, I would have thought that having owned a couple of 9-5s, the first since 2002, there would have been no surprises! Had to buy a new exterior door yesterday. I knew that it wouldn't completely...

September I'd say is about the time when manufacturers have started to produce them again for the coming winter, and when prices are likely to be keenest.
-
Because 5 was enough when the car was designed. It's partly fashion, and partly that manufacturers are trying to reduce emissions, that has caused the introduction of 6-speed boxes. 30mph per 1000rpm...

I saw my first one a few weeks ago - nice looking car with bags of presence. Bit of a coup really, as I think there have only been about 8 registered here this year......
-
I'm led to understand by a Saab dealer that one of the very faults that can kick up the transmission check light which disaapears of its own accord is the gear position sensor on top of the gearbox....

Welcome to the club!
Bet you enjoyed the trip back from Scotland! A good shakedown. You didn't actually comment on it, how does the car feel?
-
Mine is a 2004MY, and the handbook for my car specs 205/55 16s. The rolling radius of these is just about identical to the summer size of 225/45 17s. The 205/55s seem to be a common size with plenty...

I try not to think about how much my Aero estate is worth :( . I paid £10,495 for it 4 years (it does have all the bits including ventilated front seats  ) at 71,000 miles. It's now on...
-
Just had a look at the car from your link - it's a 2003 model, not even a 2004 model. The 2004MY has round fogs & a more aggressive front. Definitely, at that price, holding out for the later...
-
....but to be fair, that is a bit of an extreme example - a very lucky buyer at that price with those miles.
-
As quinophex says, "They all do that sir". Probably the most common thread here along with sump dropping.

I had a pair of Conti Winter Contact TS830s fitted at the beginning of the winter, they were getting top reviews. However, at the end of the winter they were down to around 5-6mm, so I'll be lucky...

We've recently added a 30% discount for late bookings in the period up to 3rd July 2011 - i.e. within 14 days of arrival. We will still give Saabscene members 10% discount on the basic price, so...

Just a thought here. I had to replace the back box on my old 9-5 some years ago, and it transfromed the car with much faster pickup & clearly breathing more freely. Perhaps you've got a partial...

The short answer is that there are plenty of good ones around. Personally I'd give this one a miss. Keep an eye on the classifieds here and you will at some point pick up a nice example which has had...
