    Don't know how bad the rust is without a pic, but don't weld. It will always show. Treat the rust with something like RustBullet - it works. Then treat the door cavity with a wax treatment spray....

    Clean the battery terminals. Both battery terminal and clamp. Your battery may well be fine but terminal connection dirty.

    Don't rule out final drive and pinions. When that fails it has the same effect. When the primary drive fails it normally trashes the primary drive cover casting. Difficult to avoid seeing.

    The motors are on the wrong side. They are handed L & R. This is normally stamped on the rear of the motor near the Bosch symbol. Swapping the polarity will not make any difference.
