Panel Removal

Trying to remove the insulation panel from under the drivers side dash, haynes say to use a small screwdriver to poke up the pin and then use a fork to release the fitting, I am having no luck whatsoever, can anyone help ??
P.S. I am trying to pick up a ignition switched 12volt supply for my radar detector, any good locations ?, would prefer to have detector on my side of dash.

Why doesn't the cigarette lighter works for you? It's under key, and easyly accessible.


Anyway, when I have to remove my kickpanel, I turn out the screws without putting too much pressure on it, and then pull out the pins, they can come only if the screw is removed or loosened at least. When you'll have removed them it will be obvious how they works.

emmm...as haynes describes it sound simple but...
the screwdriver needs to be small (jewlers type) and you push till the resistance goes (all of a sudden !!)
This will allow you to prise the big flat bit off with a fork,bigger screwdriver etc
BEWARE the prongs on the this fixing can be fragile and ,if snapped off,will damn you forever to have a loose and shoogly panels like mine

Having damned two of my cars similarly, I found Halfords sells similar trim clips with a centre-pin that pushes in but can be unscrewed again with a screwdriver. The usual rip-off price of a few quid for a pack of 5 or so, but they do the job and are less likely to need to be replaced in the future.

You can also re-use the existing caps if you lose the centre pin by screwing in a self tapping screw (no 6 or 8, can't remember )
