Thread: Oil Addatives

    Oil Addatives

Is it true what they say about oil addatives?

Are these hi-performance metal coating friction reducing products really as good as they say?

Or are they just another gimmick to convince us that they will add considerable MPG and increase performance and extend the life of your engine.

Is it more realistic to believe that these products will in fact degrade the fine balance of high tech engine oils which have been developed to a very high standard over recent years; in fact damaging the engine not protecting it!

If these product don't work, it must be that the Trades Description wallers could have a field day.

I've always been dubious about additives.Castrol GTX Magnatec does work though. You feel the difference as soon as you start running it.

Quality motor oils are optimum products requiring no additives as such, therefore, avoid unnecessary expense and possible hastle with engine drivetrain!

I am skeptical of most additives but saw for myself the effect when my son added something or other (friction eliminator) to his Maestro Turbo.
His idle revs increased from 850 to 1100. He had done nothing else.
If anyone interested I could find out the name of the stuff (son in US on holiday right now)

I'm fairly sure I read somewhere that the people who manufacture S**ck 50 had to pay up because they couldn't justify the claims they had made in their advertising. Now I may have dreamt this or read some internet myth type thing but it sounds reasonable to me Never had much success with Red Line water wetter in racing engine coolant, Shell Optimax petrol etc etc etc either but I know people who swear by this kind of stuff..... doubt it'll do any harm and if you truly believe it will probably make things work better too - whatever happens in terms of engine performance this type of stuff will certainly help to reduce the anoying build up of cash in your bank account that you've been trying to get rid of for ages
