Which countries drive on the left?
Apart from Blighty, I can think of (but am not entirely sure):
Australia
South Africa
China
Japan
India - or do they drive on both sides ;-)
If I'm correct on those, that means almost half the world's population drives on the right (I mean correct) side! Ducking for cover from the Americans on the board....

Re: Which countries drive on the left?
Most of Africa - or at least Southern Africa - does, thanks to good old British colonialism. And SA is fast-becoming the favoured location for the manufacture of RHD cars, because of its comparatively easy access to the UK, African and Australasian RHD markets.

Does that mean the British Beemers come from SA?

Wouldn't be that bad a thing if they did.. I rented a 318 from Avis on holiday in South Africa last year, did 1500 miles in two weeks with it running from Jo burg down to the cape.. i can tell you that car soaked up the bumps on some of the crummier roads I took, and performed great on the switch-back roads in the mountains. Airco worked great too. 4 up, Airco on, boot full of rucksacks, no problem on some of the climbs around the kruger national park.
Even although I am a Saab man.. I must say they are good products.. and not the worse for being built in South Africa as mine was(pity the car mags and city boys - give them a bad rep)

Re: Which countries drive on the left?
I'm pretty sure that the UK's 3-series will come from SA. BMW (and Merc, VW and whoever else) earn tax credits from their exports of smaller cars (3-series, Golf, A-class) and components, effectively meaning that they can import the larger cars tax-free, making them more competitive. Clever, eh?
Mark, if you come back make sure to look me up for a beer!

Countries that also drive on the left:
Suriname
Guyana
Both in South America.

Re: Which countries drive on the left?
Didn't Sweden once drive on the left? I'm sure they switched to the right one night in the 1950's or early 60's!! I know it sounds absolutely weird but I'm sure I can remember some documentry about it (it wasn't shown April 1st).

Re: Which countries drive on the left?
Yes, found it:
"1963 - The Riksdag decides that the country should switch to driving on the right, to be implemented in 1967". Must have been an interesting night.
Apparently all Swedes drove cars with steering wheels on the left anyway.
