96 headlamps
Am I right in thinking that 99 pattern headlights will fit my 1973 V4? Is this a direct fit? What other options are there as I'm keen to get a little more candle power up front? Any one have experience with adding spots on the bumper, what size have you gone for and is fitting simple?
regards

Re: 96 headlamps
Zen,
The general opinion is that 99 and 96 front lights are interchangeable. I haven't tried it myself.

99 and V4 headlights are identical

Re: 96 headlamps
Yes headlamps are identical except for the bulb holder 99 lamps have a csating for the bulb which requires a different retainer.
If ordering from SAAB make sure you order the retainer as well.

Re: 96 headlamps
Zen,
Round Hellas don't look bad on a 96. There are several possible ways to fit them. Things to take into account:
- They should look well-placed.
- They shouldn't block the air flowing to the radiator.
- They shouldn't sit in the way when openening the bonnet.

Re: 96 headlamps
sorry to resurrect this but how do you mount the extra lights, on to the bodywork or on to the bumper?

Re: 96 headlamps
Zen,
Mounting extra lights can be done in several different ways. What you need is to find a good spot to fit the light supports. The 99s and 900s with rubber bumpers have threaded holes (8mm?) for this purpose. I'm not sure about the rubber bumpers of the later V4s.
If you have a V4 with chrome bumpers, the story is different. Only today I saw a '67 96 with holes drilled in the bumper. A more elegant solution would be to buy a chrome bar that fits above the bumper between the two overrider supports and attach the lights to this bar.
When fitting extra lights make sure the hood/bonnet still opens okay.
