Power steering noise

Merry Xmas everyone!

Just bought my first Saab 900 XS, K reg. What a car! The power steering when turning makes a slight whooshing/shooshing noise. Sounds a bit hydraulic. Is this normal? Somebody suggested that the PAS fluid might be dirty. Any help greatly appreciated.

A slight hiss when turning the wheel particularly at full lock is normal.

If the power steering is make the whooshing noise at all times while you are steering, you need to check the PAS fluid level. If it is low then this noise will occur. Also check for any leaks coming from the pump or the steering rack.
