    lambda sensor blues

my car stalled recently on a rainy day whilst driving. tried a few starts but had no luck in getting the car going. i ended up towing the car back home. after analysing the problem at home i found out that the check engine light flashed 6 times. and eventually found that this is the lambda sensor. i just replaced the sensor about a month ago. my question to anybody is,if your lambda sensor is faulty will it cause the car to stall during driving, coz i thought that it just fine tunes your fuelling with regards to emission control. i would have thought, the worst that can happen is a misfire. a day later the car starts perfectly but with the check engine light on though any thoughts anyone

    expansionvalve,

My experiences of failed Lambda sensors has been that the engine runs ridiculously rich. Like having the choke on a carb car fully out. In the cooler climes of Scotland you get away with a misfire or two and about 12 MPG. My guess that in the heat of Brunei it will effectively be flooded. After a day then you can probably restart but one warmed up again it'll probably stall again.

    Paul is right.

The extra fueling serves as a coolant & more importantly, protection against detonation which could harm the engine seriously. As it's unable to sense the oxygen content, it over-fuels to make sure the fuel in the fuel/air mixture is not lean.
