on/off headlight problems???
hi,i've had a problem with the lights on my 93 9k aero for about a week now so was wondering if anyone else has the same probs?
Day 1: my headlights turned on;-no headlights just side lights, flash high beam and it transfers through the headlights!
Day 2: headlights turned on;- all is working normally ,flash high beam only o/s one is working.
Day 3: same as Day 1 !!! and so on.
i have replaced the double red relay in the last few months although it was s/hand.could it be the light switch itself? if so how do you get the pesky b*&%$r out without breaking it
please help me anyone

Re: on/off headlight problems???
A couple of thoughts aerojod :
1. The second hand red double relay may be defective - this has happened to me twice. There are posts on here somewhere suggesting that cracked solder on the base of the mechanical relays is often the cause of them failing and describing the repair.
2. There is a second relay in the light circuit - maybe your problem is "the other one"
3. The switch is not too hard to get out. From memory, remove the cover behind the steering wheel - T head screws underneath. Pull off the connector and remove the screws holding the switch for ease of making continuity checks when the switch is operated.
HTH,
Chris

Re: on/off headlight problems???
It seems like it's a defective lamp control module (the orange box next to the double red relay- though it looks like a relay it's not one).
The double red relay only provides power and switching between lo/high beams. The power then goes through the lamp control module. If you flash the high beam on and off and you hear a click from the double red relay, than it's probably working fine. See if you can borrow an orange lamp control and plug it in.
I had a similar problem on my '94 CSE. Went to my SAAB indy garage and got a used one for CDN $25. It fixed all problems.
