Bailey d/v
I'm just about either fit a Bailey evo d/v to the car (K 2.0 LPT).
Now the question is do I A)get an atmospheric d/v that has just two outlets eg bottom & top and blank off my the hole at the turbo end.
Or B) get a recirculating valve, and not bother with the "whoosh", I was told by the boys at AVA (Zep & Ylee may have heard of them staying nearish the Glasgow area) that I could fit the atmospheric valve and blank off the hole at the turbo.
I know I'm sounding vague but I dont what the hole is called that the side pipe the recirculating pipe goes into down at the turbo end, sorry.

Re: Bailey d/v
If your car is a standard LPT, then I'd say go for the recirculating one, as it won't be running much boost. You'll probably not get too much noise from an atmospheric D/V on the LPT.

Re: Bailey d/v
Yes it's standard right now!,shame and here was me looking forward to a atmospheric valve.
But I might still go for one the atm that is, cuase I may in the n/future get some tweaks here/there.

Re: Bailey d/v
I fitted a Forge FMD004. Feels like a very solid unit, not super loud (like TurboXS or some of the others available), plus it is fully rebuildable. I think I read about someone on this board having a hell of a time rebuilding a bailey. Bailey wouldn't sell the spring or something to that nature. Search the archives and you'll stumble across the thread.

Re: Bailey d/v
If your car (as I suspect it will be as a 92/93lpt) is fitted with an AMM (Air Mass Meter) then you must fit a ricirculating type dump valve to avoid problems with fuelling (with an atmospheric you end up dumping air to the atmosphere that has already been metered, and that the ECU has calculated the correct amount of fuel for).
The AMM (if fiitted) is located in the intake pipe between the air filter and turbo.

Mark.....I was told by Bill Greer (Jimmy Mcrae's ex-mechanic) that I would need a double piston a/d/v.
I did try an ordinary d/v (not the recirculating) and the car ran fine, but (as you know) wouldnt idle.
So he's ordered a double piston valve which according to him and other Iv'e spoke to said that'll work fine, so I'll what happens when I get it.

Re: Bailey d/v
Stu,
The double piston arrangement is the internal configuration adopted by higher spec dump valves, atmospheric or not, in order to provide better response and greater reliability under higher pressures.

Re: Bailey d/v
The (single) piston design of dump valve was introduced to offer the benefits you describe Mark and is superior to the diaphragm design in those respects.
However, the double piston configuration was introduced on atmospheric valves to prevent them leaking at idle. The vacuum at idle retracts the outer piston, leaving the inner piston sealing the valve.
This will of course allow a car with AMM to idle properly, but will still do nothing to address the temporary rich condition immediately after the boost is dumped.

Re: Bailey d/v
Thanks for the response from you all, but I still wait for the d/p/a valve, probably next week.

Re: Bailey d/v
Saab1,
So are you saying you are still going for an atmospheric one?

Re: Bailey d/v
Julian is absolutely correct...

Re: Bailey d/v
....by the law of averages, it had to happen one day.

Why, when it will cause problems with fuelling?
-
Re: Bailey d/v
Mmmm, thats what he didnt tell me, but I guess he wants to sell so he wont.
But then again, he's letting me "try before I buy", but are you talking about fuelling as in MPG wise?, cause other than that nothing's goin' to show up just with run round the block unless it really runs like **** .
