I took mine to a transmission specialist in the end & £190 later the transfer from gear to gear is faultless

    Well done...
Its good when you actually can feel the difference. It proves it was ready for doing.
Your wallet may be smarting but nothing like the £1800 it costs to have the box rebuilt!!!
I just thought I would get a quote whilst I was having my ATF drained.

£1800 is chronic...... I'd be down to the scrappers looking for a Vectra/Insignia to pillage

I woukd not be down the scrap yard pillaging a vectra or insignia .
I woukd be on a street corner swinging my handbag .
COS if £1800 is the cost to have the gearbox rebuilt , I would feel as if I've been F****d well and truly.

Can you tell me who did the ATF change for you? I still have our soft-top's ATF to change in June and after the XWD's experience, I'm really not looking forward to it!
In fairness, my Saab specialist kept at it until they sorted it (four full flushes in the end) and the car seems fine now - fingers still crossed though! Nevertheless it might be less stressful to use a good autobox specialist.

I did this job myself on the vert a couple of years ago and although time consuming is fairly easy to do.

The capacity is around 7L for the 6 speed.
A drain empties around 2.75L so to achieve a 90% turnover you need to do 4 changes.
For the inbetween changes I just put in the 2.75L and on the last followed the procedure to check the level by run off from the drain tube and then overfill as per wis instructions.
I did this over a period of a few weeks driving the car in between.
For the adventurous you can tap into the ATF cooler lines and then empty and fill with the engine running.
I didnt have the courage to do it that way as I was wary of completely emptying the gearbox in a few seconds!

I will be doing this job again over the summer on a recently acquired Sportwagon
