Right...

I've got a 93 1.9 tid vector 150, 2005.
Basically these are the codes that keep getting thrown up in the picture attachment. Since its started playing up I've blanked off my egr valve and had the injector clips and wires that lead onto replaced and spliced on.

The problem is a completely random cutting out of the engine it may happen at ideal any gear at any time there's no logic to it whatso ever. Sometimes I can even go a 1000 miles without an issue then I will go on a 30 mile drive and it will happen 30+ times. When this happens I knock it out of gear. Switch it on and off and it starts fine straight away (not very safe if your doing 70 as you can imagine but it works)
I also get random light bulbs throw up as gone when there working perfectly fine and sometimes the alarm will randomly go off with no signs of anything to disturb it.
Also... I've noticed the heat gauge will get up to temperature when Idel but go down again when driving along, is this normal for a Saab?

I don't think I've missed anything out but my local garage had already wiped there hands of it and I don't really know where to look to next, any help and I would be very greatful!

Mileage?

Sounds like an ECU issue? Have you tried disconnecting battery and leaving it a couple of hours? Resets the ECU.

The temp gauge thing could be a faulty thermostat but in saying that, it's likely to tie in with your other electrical gremlins.

What are the codes you speak of? Best thing to do is systematically work through them one by one IMO.

The codes should be in the attachment mate are you able to see them?
I'll disconnect the battery today for a few hours see if that does the trick.
I've looked over so many forums to see if I could find similar problems without joy :( it's done 150000 miles now so she's well worn in lol

Mine had same issue...faulty ECM...its hidden in the drivers side wheel arch in front of the wheel...connector can be removed by copious amounts of penetrating fluid and gentle sliding of the lock clips back and forth. I'll agree...its a bit hairy at 70mph when the car suddenly just dies on you...
New ECM needs Tech2 to marry it to the car
ECM needs to be "added" first, NOT programmed first...(I did that and corrupted the ECM...seemingly causeda VIN mismatch that couldn't easily be resolved with tech2)

Fine since

Temp will be the stat failing and getting "lazy" (i.e. opening under lower temp due to the spring getting weak)

I bought a calorstat housing and stat off ebay...one plus is it lets you thenin the future swap the stat without replacing the housing (stat is down the right hand side of the engine, needs a few things removed to make it easier to get at) stable temps and better fuel economy....I took my throttle body off while I was at it, throttle flap was stiff due to hard gunk, cleaned it off, freed it and then greased the sides of the flaps..much smooth, also cleaned out what i could from the intake via the throttle body hole...whipped out glows and cranked over to blow any cleaning fluid out after...sounds a lot healthier...no wonder though

Thanks mate, so I'm a nutshell I'm probably talkin new ecu if the connectors are knackered and thermostat? Like I said I know a little bit about cars but I'm no mechanic. I had the throttle body ect off not so long back and you were right they were chocked up to hell! Other than these issues I bloody love my Saab

I would first remove the ECU and clean up all the contacts - if you havent done so already as i reckon thats what your garage is going to do...........
You could also open the case and check continuity on the solder joints etc although if there is problem on the board itself then a replacement is likley the only solution.
From the symptoms described above its likely you have a bad joint or contact somewhere imho

Right I've tried the ecu reset with the battery worked fine on the place I was going, on the way back it was bloody awful. Got it booked in for an MOT next week so I'm gonna get them to send away the ecu for a refurb anyway they said it was about 120 quid so I though why not it could probably do with one. Then I suppose if that doesn't cure it look to the wiring looms?

Tried cleaning up the terminals to no avail, conked out during the mot and the response I got was sell it which I wasn't impressed with! :( I've ignored that and sent away the Ecu to be tested anyway just to rule that out its only costing me 70 quid. Then I suppose it leaves wiring and fuses which the garage has already tested and can't seem to find any problem so hopefully I will find the problem eventually, I will keep the post updated should have it back within the week

does the garage know what they are looking for ? voltages and resistances at various points etc and do they jiggle the wires whilst testing

I would suspect a wiring issue tbh, as Nathan says it would be nice to know the last 2 digits of the code it would indicate what 2 injectors need to be looked at

injector 3 wiring is a very common cause

also worth checking the fuel and main relay

But if an update, Ecu came back from testing all working fine the only slight issue was a bit of corrosion on one of the terminals but according to then not enough to cause an issue so that's now back on. Also had the rear light bulb holders changed as there were earthing out cause the car to say bulbs were blown when this wasn't the case. All earth wires were checked and tightened and harness looked at again.
I've so far done about 100 miles without and issues and mpg has gone from 43mpg to about 51mpg. May just be a coincidence but time will tell. Any more issues and it will be going to my local Saab specialist Robert Holden of Norwich so fingers crossed it's fine it's already cost enough lol

Yeah I know Nathan is was more my stupidity to get it done anyway, the saga continues. The 'Saab specialist' refused to work on the car because the egr had been blanked and removed from the system and the pots and swirl bar had been welded and unless I got a new egr & inlet wouldn't work on it so I brought it home. But they did do a reading and got the codes

P0271 0F
P0268 0F
P0265 0F
P02141 0F

All 4 injector wires open circuit short to ground

No garage really seems to want to work on it but if you guys seem sure on the harness and fusebox I should really get my ass in gear and find a good auto electricition?

#21 ·
the bottom code p02141 doesnt exist

but the other 3 are all for injectors namely open circuit/ ground

basically you have no power going to them or back to the ecu

or there is but the clips are nackered and breaking the circuit at the injector its self ( common fault )

you need to try some continuity testing and or bang a set of clips on ... they can be bought from ebay or vauxhall as it was such a common fault

it may not be the case but simple things first not just jumping into the deep end and shouting ecu ecu ecu

I do appreciate your help Nathan, the clips have all been replaced dude. So that rules that out and the ecu has been tested so I am no longer looking at that. We've been through the wires with no issue, just recently got my hands on a set of injectors cheap and replaced 1 & 4 not wanting to do them all at once to eliminate problems.
Took it on a good run without issues until I pulled into my road and blew a seal. Codes only came up 2&3 injector circuit high and a pressure sensor code because of the blown seal.
Going back to a friends tonight to install and program them in.

Going to be pretty jarred off if it was a case of the injectors as a local garage supposedly tested them. Going through the serve history it's now on 156k never had a new set on purhaps it is the issue? I always though injectors were pretty durable.

I'm not going to hold my breath but I will keep you posted ;)
