hmmmm their heart is still with the EV and only see the Petrol as a stepping stone so not so sure they will make the 9-3 into the ng9-5 style,
a lower engine to bring down the 26k price tag would be nice, i did see a report that says they are going to swap the audio to a panasonic head unit with android intergration bluetooth / sat nav etc so it brings the audio side to the top of the game
but believe the core of the car is going to be the same as its only a face lift not a redesign
i just really hope they can develop the EV to be able to do 250 - 300 miles off a full charge (currently 124 miles), with a really quick charging time and the batteries last for at least 10 years lol
Glad they're up and running, but already playing catchup.
Even the Hyundai I20 has bluetooth intergrated phones, etc etc.
Should be launching a car with a USP, not an outdated stopgap to generate revenue.
Just the SAAB badge is not going to be enough, and I can see another crises looming.
no car really has a USP nowadays, just like the computer world, no PC Manufacturer has a USP
the whole idea of having a USP is an outdated business concept nowadays when it comes to technology,
yes it is always good to do something different but this could set you up for a big fail,
but tell me the USP's for a peugeot 208, vauxhall corsa, ford fiesta, renault clio, hyundai i20 and many many more?
every manufacturer is playing catch up to designers / prototypers anyway even the likes of BMW and Volvo but lets review the costs of these cars with these USP's rather than the every day type of car people will be driving, what people are looking for is a nice solid reliable car to suit their needs not gimmicks and USP's that mean you have to be stupidly rich to drive it and that is what i feel Saab have they have always been that price cut under the likes of BMW, Merc and Audi but deliver the same quality of car
Sorry but engines crap brakes are crap premium sound 150 is crap its just bodge bodge bodge and bang it out earn some cash...... The EV well don't even get me started on that waste of a brain cell..... If anything they need to hybrid all of their cars even the diesels this would give them more power and efficiency thus keeping tax low and mpg high
They are the ones who went bust and are now trying to get back into a lost market.
Unless they do something different, albeit it perhaps within a particular price band, they'll still be stuck
with the few fans like us. Not enough to relaunch a failed business.
Satnav's are standard even in "lesser" cars. So lets forget going forward; they're not even standing still.
perhaps you should read up on the ins and the outs of what happened and in particular what GM did to force Saab to go bust, saab were doomed because of how much GM had control of them, and killed them off
but now Saab are pretty much GM free (Saab were reporting to be making a profit untill GM did what they did)
What I'm saying is Saab has been left behind. No matter how much you berate GM, it is Saab management who failed
to manage their situation ( including their GM relationship) and went bust. Let's hope they've learnt their lessen or history will repeat itself.
And by the way, I live in a world where modern technology is expected even in basic appliances.
so what your saying is its the fault of the 1st mate (Saab) of a boat sinking if the captain (GM) made enough damage to the boat so it was taking a lot of water,
the 1st mate saw this was happening and decided to try and take control, the captain eventually released control (once he was happy enough damage had been done) and allowed the 1st mate to be acting captain to try and keep it a float but try as much as he could it still sank
but because the 1st mate had declared he was going to build his own boat that had nothing to do with the captain, the captain decided to make it as difficult as possible for the 1st mate to carry on their plans
if you think "Saab" were actually in control under GM ownership you are mistaken, hence why the car ended up 80% GM or whatever it was
although i am from a Vauxhall background so i do quite like GM i do believe Saab can be strong on their own
Youre talking riddles bordering on toosh.
Saab needed GM but did not manage that relationship.
"The boss may not always be right, but he has the right to be the boss"
You don't manage your relationship with your boss you get fired. period'
yes the boss may not always be right but they have the last say and make all the decision whether lower level management (saab) agree or not but have to follow their bosses decisions
"you dont manage your relationship with your boss you get fired"
but in this case saab got fired because it was the managements decision and there was nothing saab could do no matter how it was managed by saab
so it has nothing to do with saabs management or actually the car
The reason of Saab's demise is GM got into difficulty so they were forced to let go of a few brands. Saab was one of the brands that they decided to let go of because Saab were always doing their own thing against GM rule.
Basically GM said, right we want a rebodied Vectra, no thrills just a basic car with basic build quality & technology. Saab on the other hand decided, look we want our cars to be premium, we can compete in the premium market so we'll over-rule GM.
Take the factory Navigation system in my car for example, this is not a GM unit, but a fully independent Saab designed unit.
So to save Saab from going down, Spyker NV. bought over the brand. Victor Muller released a special edition of the 9-3 Convertible as a celebration for Saab's once again independence. He had high hopes for the brand and wanted to get things back on track so he pushed out the brand new 9-5 as quickly as possible, but this meant the car was released before it was fully ready. Critics have said the 9-5's suspension setup could have been so much better. The saab brand managed to stay alive for a further 2 years, until Victor Muller had to declare bankruptcy due to a deal 'block' from GM.
This is the darkest day in my career, the darkest day probably in the history of Saab. But we had no other alternatives." explained Muller.
Muller is still successful with his Spyker projects
