    steam cleaner and Inverter

    Hi everyone,
I recently bought from Halfords a steam cleaner but unfortunately I need to plug it in a wall socket. Since i can not drive my car in the house and I don't have a drive I have a sort of problem.
I might have a solution but I need a reply from someone who knows what is talking about.
Can anyone tell me if a 1000W inverter (from Ebay) would power up my Halfords steamer. If not what do you have any suggestions? do i need a 1200W inverter?
These are the technical specifications of the Halfords steamer:

Supply voltage 230V AC 50 Hz
    Power consumption 900 W

    Thank you in advance

    Mark

    Re: steam cleaner and Inverter

Could you use an extension cord?

The rating is based on a continuous usage, so as long as the drain is less / meets at the most the the supply capability, it will be ok.. inverters will also handle much higher wattage drain for a few seconds, like when a device demands more power for starting etc, but this is all based on a good quality item, not a cheap fleabay bit of kit. If you go this route, buy one that puts out as much as you can afford.

Did you worry as this thing heats water? 900 watts is 900 watts, be it a steamer heating element, lights, or a motor etc. etc. but you are doing the correct thing, checking the figures and, as long as you don't buy some sub-standard, illegally- labelled import from china, it'll be good. just check it every few minutes; when it starts to melt, that's your sign to stop!(using the thing)
She managed to persuade me to give up the motorcycle; the HOT Aero is just as much fun - but uses a lot more petrol!
