Convertible soft top unresponsive

I have an intermittent fault with my soft top. On a couple of occasions (a year apart!), the roof has not responded when I try to open it. No message appears on the SID, and there is no noise. On one occasion after a long drive (with the roof up), and the other time after it had been parked. Once warm weather, once cold. Battery fully charged and engine on.
Both times, the problem fixed itself after I left the car for about an hour.
Sounds trivial perhaps, but last night I had large boxes on the back seat which I needed to get out.

If it is intermittent then i would look towards electrical first. switch, relay, microswitches. the roof is hydraulic so it could be low fluid but start with the switch. as it dies not get a lot if use suggest taking it out and cleaning with switch/contact cleaner cleaner which you can get from the likes of Maplin.

It's not the dashboard switch, because roof is also unresponsive to the remote key.
Where does the relay live?

fuese box, engine bay i think. should be a guide in the fuse box cover and owners manual
