Saab 93: replacement key fob & programming
Hi all,
Does anyone know whether I can buy a replacement fob and programme it to my car myself and if so, do you know the process of how to do this? Or can it only be done at a garage?
I've been quoted £111 from a Saab independent to supply & programme one for me.
I've seen fobs on eBay starting from £35 and wanted to know if I could DIY the programming bit.
Thanks

You cannot buy already programmed keys and have them re-programmed.
I think this can only be done via tech 2.
If you can pick up a fob they should program it for about £35
Neo bros have/had one for £60 brand new unprogrammed.

Ok so I need to buy one which is categorically brand new.
I'll check what their charge is for programming only and take it from there.
Thanks buddy

No probs
If it is just the casing that is a bit tatty you can buy a second hand one cheap and swap the casing over, something that I could do with actually.
Otherwise must be brand new.

I might have to do this on mine. Where the best place to get casings from? Are eBay items worth a punt or would it be better to buy directly from Saab?

Re: Saab 93: replacement key fob & programming
Ebay's worth a go providing the picture you see is the actual item and the description should clearly state condition.
I always message the seller if unsure and if they come back saying it is mint and you receive it and it's not then you can easily be refunded.

Re: Saab 93: replacement key fob & programming
if you only have one fob & NO spare get a spare ASAP,because if you lose your only working key you're looking at £200+ to get the car back on the road..
As the system needs at least 1 working key to be able to program another to it,otherwise it's the cost of another cim & keys+programming cost to the car..
i just got another spare from my dealer £60 inc vat,and they still had stock,so going by that at the moment there is no shortage of them..

Aerojon:
What did you get? Just the fob or the blade too?
Where is your dealer?
I need an entire second fob and blade as the car I bought only came with one and it's quite tatty.

i got just the fob no blade,if you've only got one fob like i said get another sooner rather than later..
get a cheap good condition used fob off ebay and swap out the electronics from your present key..
blades are around £27-ish(i think),they have to be ordered to your vin, other words key is cut before it gets to the dealer..

Re: Saab 93: replacement key fob & programming
Silly question but do I need two blades i.e. one for each fob or can I swap the blade between two fobs if they're both coded?
