9-5 3.0 tid bad starting problem, urgent help needed
hi all, i have just bought a 2001 9-5 3.0 tid with a bad starting problem, i didnt realise it when i bought it !
it can take a few attempts to start the car and sounds like a bag of spanners when it is starting and when it is being turned off.
whilst running the engine is perfect, smooth, quiet and powerful.
if i turn the engine off and immediately try to restart it it still struggles to start so i think that eliminates fuel seeping back to the tank.
i have had the car on a diagnostic machine with no fault codes logged.
any ideas guys ?
the battery seems fine and i had it hooked upto to a running recovery vehicle with twin batterys and the saab just acted the same like it had no diesel, the engine is bone dry with no leaks.
do these engines have spill back pipes from the injectors ?

133000 with fsh, engine is quiet when running, definately not glow plugs as the car does it when warm alswel as cold.
i may try and fit a new crankshaft sensor, or put it on ebay.

You could try changing the fuel filter.

Re: 9-5 3.0 tid bad starting problem, urgent help needed
i could but i very much doubt its that as the engine is very smooth with lots of power, it wouldnt be like that with a problematic filter.

Well, the filter advice comes from someone (not me) who has owned 3 cars with this engine and clocked up over 100k in each of them. But, you're the expert.

never claimed to be an expert but just common sense that a faulty filter wouldnt cause these symptoms.

i changed fuel filter just incase you were right but its just the same.

Hope you don't mind but I'm wondering if you could post some help to 'Barnpot' over on this thread: http://www.saabscene.com/forum/threa...badly-out-Help. We didn't exactly strike the right chord with each other and I believe he needs some help with his brain but failing that, could you please advise him on glow plugs? Thanks, from an apopletic Forum user.
