any and all help is welcomed as i say i new to saabs and diesels so any info is needed

Re: 1.9 tid engine modifications help

    Hi and welcome

I run the 150 diesel as well and I find it has a good power range and is quite quick once it's revving. ,you find some members on this forum don't favour the diesel lump.

It's my first Saab and apart from the alternator being replaced I have nothing more than the odd gremlin on self check but they have gone on the next time start, all seemed to be when very cold. But that's electrics for you eh

Can't really give any info on upgrading but some one will I am sure

    Hi there,
    Welcome.

    I also have the 150bhp 1.9TiD.
I would say to check that the engine is not sluggish up to 2000 revs. If it is you may get away with running an EGR valve cleaner through or you may have to replace the EGR valve.
Also, if the engine has over 80k miles on it, make sure that the cam belt has been changed.
Also check if the water pump has been changed.
I got the water pump and belt done at the same time before I bought mine.
The problem is that if the water pump has not been done on a high mileage car, it is the most likely thing to go wrong and it will take the cam belt with it.

Also, the radiator is a sandwich of 3. Unfortunately, the front one is the air con rad and if you look through the bottom vent in the front of the car, there is nothing to stop stones damaging the fins.
I would recommend fitting a wire grill to protect it from now on.

If the car is new enough, see if it has had the anti corrosion treatments done to keep the warranty from SAAB valid. Not sure how you could claim on it now anyway but it is good to have.

    Good luck.

    Alan

Alan, top list as for the mesh wire grill i will be fitting one asap i took my bumper off and i did notice that the radiator had some stone damage not much but enough to see, i also have had my belt and pump done at 53k alittle early but it was staring to burn the pump wheel.

dont realy no but as said the A/C is at the front, if you look through the bottom bumber grill you will see the rads that where iam going to put my mesh on the inside

my plan is to remove the bumper and fit it as it would be very awkward to do while fitted but is doable

I wish I had read this post earlier about the radiator part as I have the exact same issue, due to stone chips there is a leak so the A/C doesn't work. It has been re-gassed about 3 times now and then the fault was discovered, couldn't claim it under dealer warranty.

In terms of engine mapping there are a number on the market but i have a Hirsch one on mine which brings the hp to 175 and also significant torque (although i can't remember the exCT FIGURE) Hirsch are Saab approved and if you look on the Hirsch website it will give you the stats, Don't be fooled by their prices as most dealers offer a good discount. I got mine for £450.

sorry for the very late reply

ended up getting an angel remap cheap at 199 quid all in claimed 200hp 410nm but who knows he did it on the road not a rr but it seems to go well !!
doesnt like being cold tho after the map little juddery but fine when warm

getting a decat and de dpf in the next few weeks so getting it mapped again

ill let you know how that goes when i do as currently getting a carbon kevlar clutch and sold mass flywheel conversion

Re: 1.9 tid engine modifications help

have a 150bhp myself and been reading up about engine mods, i am a member of a vectra-c forum and they have alot more info about tuning these engines,

firstly would be an egr delete and remove the 2 cats (one at turbo and one underneath). a front mount intercooler, panel filter and de-restrict the airbox. then after all these you can get a map to suit all these mods.

i previously had a vectra 1.9 cdti and on the rollers it was 195.5bhp with 335nm torque, with just a map and the cats removed.

i will be doing the same mods to my 08 saab this year and hoping to try a few more of the above mods, and hoping to achieve in around 220bhp

Done all that mate with hybrid turb but no FMIC also made a custom turbo intake out of a 90, and. 45 70-60 reducer and some ali pipe works pretty good along with crank breather vent but inlet manifold was blocked on inspection with an endoscope and only made 190hp n 430nm doing the inlet swop out this weekend hopefully so should make a vast increase as it was so bad with soot and oil vapour
