2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
I have a 2011 Saab 9-5 Turbo4 Premium. Is there a way to activate the LED strip in the front headlamp assemblies?
I was disappointed to find out that the LED's only turn on in the"technolgy package" option with the Bi-Xenon headlamps. Saab.com website states the following note under thestandard Halogen headlights "Please note: LED signature lighting is not available with the halogen headlights."
My dealer is not real familiar with the 9-5 headlamps and does not have a good answer for me.
I am hopeful there is a way to activate them as the 9-3 LED pipes turn on with both the halogen and xenon headlamp assemblies. Can parts from 9-3 Halogenset-up be used on the 9-5?

I'd hazard a guess that they can be activated by a (knowledgeable) dealer using the Tech3 diagnostic tool.

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
Does anyone know for sure in the Tech2 or Tech3 diagnostic tools will potentially activate the LED strips in the headlamps?
Any other suggestions?

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
you say the 9-3 LED pipes turn on with both the halogen and xenon headlamp assemblies but there are 3 LED bulbs that don't light up at the ends of the LED strip which is my beef. A guy -ex saab tech - at a saab meet today told me to check the fusebox and simply put in a fuse as they didn't fit a fuse for the UK. Visited fusebox and the fuses (16 &26) are present for front position lights so my next job is to check for the presence of LED bulbs in these assemblies.

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
Any experts out there have any idea if the 9-5 strips can be activated on the halogen assemblies?

If anyone knows how to do this, I'd would forever be grateful. The Saab dealer locally has no idea...

Jay / Scott,
I'm with you, I'd like to find out also. I'm surprised there aren't more out there looking for an answer or have an answer to this. I'm still trying to determine if the LEDs are even in the headlight housing of the Turbo4 Premium. Have either of you confirmed that the LEDs actually are in our model's headlight housing?

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
I am wondering if the LED's are in fact in the headlamp also. My local dealer said I would have to swap out the entire headlamp assembly to the Bi-Xenon assemblies with the "signature lighting" and also change the control module...costing $3000-$4000.
I find this hard to believe as the 9-3 models LED pipes light up in both halogen and xenon headlamp assemblies.
I think us 9-5 owners with the halogen headlamps need to find out if in fact the headlamp assemblies have the LED bulb and wiring harness on the assembly. The LED pipes are in the assembly, so you would think that additional parts could be retrofitted to make these turn on.
I have also read that the new 9-5 uses the GDS2 Diagnostic System from GM. I am wondering if the light pipes are just programmed to be off. Can they be activated by turning them on in the program settings?
I am glad to see others are following this thread. Let's find a solution!!!

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
Trying to get this solved as well. I worked for SAAB at the Trollathan plant in Sweden as contractor. Got following Feedback via-via from someone who works at SAAB Parts:
RPO Codes in the engineering system control the light (LED) to function, you could request that to be changed, but must be done through a dealer. The dealer can programme the VCI, where they read out the car setup and then submit this with a change request to "SAAB" (there was no instance in Belgium, Germany or Sweden so I suspect it needs to go to GM). They can then change the configuration and the car can then be loaded with a new VCI programming to the proper function. The dealer should be able to help and charges should be low.
So, if we find a dealer that could read the codes of a 95 with halogeen lights and one with Bi-Xenon lights the difference should visible and reprogramming a matter of minutes.
Will continue to feed as soon as I found more!

"StevenValvekens" - Thank you very much for posting to this thread. I look forward to further information and am now feeling hopefull that we can get these activated.

Thanks a lot for the info StevenValvekens! This also gives me a lot of hope. I still don't know why all Saabs above the base model don't come with LED headlamps? Even many of Kia's cars have LED running lights! Once this is solved I need to track down some Aero seats as well .

Sadly it cant be done; there is some sort of electronic unit absent

Re: 2011 Saab 9-5 Headlamps (Can the LED strips be activated?)
Thanks for checking, but I am still not convinced that they cannot be activated. I am still hoping to find a solution to this issue. If it is an "electronic unit" why can't it be added.

Has anyone found a way to get these turned on?
