    uffeth,

You don't make it clear but I assume you are talking Auto box. The major change was 1994-5 so M reg can be either.

If it a an auto (it is 4 speed), a cause of lack of change can be the govenor seals breaking up. This can be fixed with the box in situ. Try a search, there are a few threads on this. The engines changed around '94 MY (ie late '93) I believe so which box fits would depend on whether it is the old long engine or the newer short one. I don't think the boxes are compatible but stand to be corrected.

    uffeth,

Sorry, I should have noticed that you said 5 speed so it must be a manual 'box. As Alan G said, you are quite close to the change over date so you need to check whether the two engines are the same. I find the best way is to compare the cam chain end of the cylinder head. On one the two 'additional' 13mm head bolts on the edge go downwards through the head into the block and on the other they come upwards through a flange on the block into the head. Hope that makes sense !

I can't remember which is which though I do have pre and post change cylinder heads in the garage so I could check. Will do if you want but probably best to just see what you have and compare with the other motor.

The 'boxes won't fit interchangeably - I've tried.

    Paul @ Kippen.

the problem is that the car is 2 hours away and i havent looked at it yet, but i can look at mine and see if it has the 2 13mm bolts...if you have a picture of one, that would help!!
