I've searched the threads and found a similar issue but not describing my issue exactly.

    I have a MY02 9-3 SE TiD.

Immediately behind my climate control panel is what sounds like dry bearing or a failing bearing on the fan. This fan runs as soon as I turn the ignition on and makes a 'classic' high speed rasping/graunching noise. 6 months ago it used to only happen for a minute or 2 after the climate system came on but it is now increasingly permanent. The noise continues after I've turned the air con off (so doesn't sound like the previous thread I researched where the system needed to be recharged - the noise went away once the air con was turned off.)

If the fan at the rear of the climate control panel has bearing noise, is it a lost cause at this stage or can it be lubricated? If so, how?

My local SAAB dealer gleefully quoted me £600 to replace the unit... gulp...!

Do you mean the cabin blower motor, the CC temp sensor fan or the cooling fan on the radiator ??

The CC sensor and the blower motor can both be lubricated if they are removed, not sure about the rad fan as i havent done that one -- yet. The CC fan is easy to remove but the blower motor is a bit of a pain but worth it to save £600.
