But I don't think it actually knows if it's flat. On the 9-5 it's done by counting the number of presses of the remote button. So if you accidently press the button a lot in your pocket when out of range of the car, it may go flat quicker.
Or, assuming there's a measure of safety in the calculation, the battery may be good for a lot longer.
You can also get a false reading if you take the battery out to have a look. The car and remote assume that when you put it back, it's a new battery!
the reason for the question was that my remote stopped opening the doors but does still work in ignition so the transponder is working. The display shows nothing but i'm assuming battery is dead so will fit new today.
