Thread: Torque Arm Access

    I’m going to replace the bushes on the rear torque arms (with Superflex bushes), & once the job is done the final tightening of the torque arms obviously needs to be done with the wheels back on the ground. My question is… how do you access the bolts to do this once the cars back on terra firma – especially when mine has a deliberately low ride height? Are there any tricks, or are they relatively easy to access?

    Thinking out of the box... could you use a pair of axle stands under the end of each trailing arm set at a height that corresponds to "normal" distance off the ground?

    Ah, good point. Wheels don't actually have to be on, axle just has to be where it would be if they where.

    I thought about ramps. But don't own any, nor know anyone who does. Might be the time to invest. Can't be as expensive as those polyurethane bushes. Certainly not the front lower wishbones from Powerflex.... yeesh!

    If you're using PowerFlex bushes then I don't think it matters if the suspension is loaded up or not. The central metal sleeve can rotate freely in the bush (and it's greased to allow that) whereas original bushes (being in one piece) don't allow for any 'extra' rotation which is why they need to be tightened up when the suspension is in its 'normal' resting position.
