My Saab toolkit doesn't seem to have anything in it to remove the plastic caps that cover the wheel bolts. I didn't fancy levering a screwdriver against the nice alloy wheels. I've seen plastic 'tweezers' which the dealer denied all knowledge of and suggested needle nose pliers (hmm, that explains the scratch marks then .

Anyway, thinking laterally, I got hold of an 'IC removal tool' used for removing computer chips from their sockets. Works a treat I got mine from Maplins: Maplin IC Removal Tool but I'm sure there are plenty of other places to get them as well. Just thought I'd post this in case it was useful to anyone else in the future.

    Cheers,
    M.

    Thanks!

There should be a bit of bent metal in the tool kit. I keep mine in a plastic bag with the locking key.

Yep, I knew what I was after but there didn't seem to be anything in the kit. I guess the caps could be 'wiggled' off with the wheel brace but...

I was just surprised (perhaps I shouldn't have been) that the dealer had no idea such a thing existed. I know people sell 'em on eBay for a fiver, and the consensus is dealers (any make) should have them for a quid or so. But the IC remover tool does the job nicely too.

    Cheers,
    M.

When I was working at the specialists we kept the nut covers in stock, they are stupidly cheap and would come with one removal tool (bent bit of metal that pushed over the covers and you pulled straight off) for every packet of 20 covers. I used to bin 'em as we didn't need them!
