Rear Backrest open warning

I had to put my seats down to transport a bike. I get:

Rear Backrest open warning

come up on the dash when the seats are down. I pressed clear to get rid of teh messages. Now I have put the seats up in their original position I still get teh same error message.

Please help.

All sorted now I did not click teh backrest into place.

I put water in the oil filler cap on my old Mini...

yeah - they certainly need a bit of force to lock the rear seats. i always have to do it a few times before the warning goes away.

I had once put my rear seats down to transport a bulky item. I got the usual "Rear Backrest Open" warning on the dash. I was expecting that so I pressed clear to get rid of the message but what I was not expecting was that this kept coming up after a while. So during the whole journey I had every now and then to clear the error. Really annoying.
