will i be able to replace the standard double din stereo in a facelift (latest dash type) 93 sportwagon, with a commercially available unit?
i know there are issues with the pre facelift model but is the facelift model easier to upgrade...

You certainly can, have a read through Kenwood DNX5220 multimedia satnav to get some ideas of what's involved

That unit will physically fit, and wire wire up with the right connectors/harness.
As for quality of sound or manufacture, can't comment, but as with most things, you tend to get what you pay for.

must say the price alone would put me off, totally out of line with 'established' brands on the market
can remember (assuming exact same unit) seeing feedback n AVForums a little while back. Out of three buyers : one returned it to supplier and two resorted to re-selling on ebay - check here http://www.avforums.com/forums/car-enterta...ng-rubbish.html
if you do go ahead let us know how it works out

Try this site, they seem very reasonable & have all the saab facia/connectors also!

Think I will try them for upgrade on mine, I'm in North Wales, so a massive trip if I have to goto London, might see if i can get something like it in Liverpool/Manchester.
IF ANYONE KNOWS OF GOOD IN CAR ENTERTAINMENT SHOPS/INSTALLERS IN Liverpool/Manchester/Cheshire areas please let me know.

thanks for your comments.....my main priority is a good i pod connection and am i right in thinking that i can use the front aux input on the facelift stereo to control the i.pod?
-
pretty certain you can play your iPod ok using AUX input, but as regards 'control' ..... i suspect there will be limitations, and I'm not sure quite what you get by way of head unit screen display & functionality etc
stevedol will hopefully be back soon to clarify as an experienced 9-3 owner

The front 'aux-in' on the 9-3 stereo 2007+ is audio only, same as the centre console mounted on in the earlier model.
you can connect a cable from the ipod headphone socket to the front aux in to get souind from the ipod playing through the Saab stereo system, but you will still need to use the ipod to control song choice.
There are several add-in units for the GM audio system that enable full ipod control for quite a few GM models that share this radio, but unfortunately, Saab isn't one of those supported, which is what fuelled my decision to go aftermarket.
