Thread: 98 9000 original wheels

  1. #1
    Hi,

I recently bought this car with 17" 'Team Dynamic' wheels fitted, plus the original Saab wheels.

OK I thought, as soon as the 17" tyres start to wear, I'll fit the original wheels as I don't like the 17" things anyway, and because of their low profile, the ride is quite hard.
Imagine my dismay then, to find that the hubs won't take standard wheels, different hubs must have been fitted along with the 17" wheels.
There's a lip to fit the presently fitted items which prevents Saab wheels from seating.

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but can I change just the hubs, or are they part of the disc assembly?

    Anyone?

Sounds like somebody may have either fitted spacers to the hubs or there is a spiggot ring on the hub. As far as I know there is no alternative hubs available without spending a large fortune and doing a lot of engineering to the car. Can you take a picture of the hub asembly and post it for us? Shouldnt take too long for us to be able to identify whats going on with your car.

I'll go along with what Pug says and by the sound of things that you must have spiggot rings fitted to your original hubs to match the bore on your 17's.

You guys were right, spigot rings were fitted.
The reason I didn't realise this, is because on the RH front hub, the ring had separated from the wheel and stuck hard to the hub, giving the appearance of being part of the hub.
If only I'd looked at another wheel, I would have seen the rings in the wheels!

I now have the Saab wheels on and the car looks much better. Less boy racer and more old geezer, which suits me fine.
Also, the slight wheel wobble has gone. This would have been due to the loose spigot rings I think? The LH front one was also loose.
As they're made of plastic they must deform with the heat from the front brakes, and should be checked and replaced when necessary.

    Thanks for your help!!!

Glad to hear that its all sorted as easy as that
