Very briefly, EGR went 2 months prior to warranty expiring, local dealer repaired under guidance from Saab rather than replace. 18 months on and the EGR has gone again, cost of replacement £311. Saab have offered to contribute 20% of the parts cost with still leaves me with a bill of £280. I pointed out that the only reason i still had the car was because i was waiting for Saab to offer PCP deals again and argued the point that had the EGR been replaced it would have lasted longer but customer services were not interested.
My advice is firstly to insist on replacement rather than repair under warranty and secondly i was surprised to be told by Saab that even if a part is replaced under warranty they will not guarantee it after the warranty expires. Friends and collegues in similar positions have had, as a minimum, 100% of the parts covered, i guess Saab do not consider customer loyalty a priority.
Rant & rave over, sorry to say my new car next month will be from someone that realises car ownership extends past the warranty period. Can highly recommend Squire Furneaux in Welwyn Garden City, with 15 years of new car ownership behind me they have been the only dealer worth recommending.

AFAIK all Saab parts now carry a 2 year warranty (part only, not labour). So, if any part you have replaced prior to the end of the original car warranty subsequently fails the part itself should be replaced FOC but you will have to pay for the labour.

I reckon the 20% offer seems pretty good. I have parts replaced before under warranty: Saab, Audi, Fiat (yes, I know !) and all have had this policy. The warranty is just that, a fixed period of cover. I have asked for invoices etc to prove my warranty cover for the life of the part and been refused.
An example, near end of one year warranty, Part X fails. Replaced with part that normally carries two year warranty. Do you seriously expect to have 2 more years warranty cover on that part, it's not really reasonable is it.
However, your beef about the EGR being cleaned and not replaced, now that's a different issue. There are loads of tales on here about people trying to clean them and all failing. I'm amazed yours lasted 18 months, you were lucky !

If that is the warranty advertised with the part, then that is the warranty on that part, period. As I said though this does not cover labour. In addition if any dealer offers a warranty on any work of a period that would exceed the original warranty on the car, then that holds.

If you were paying for the part you would be correct, however, with a warranty repair you are not paying for the part. When you pay for a service you enter into a contract and then have various protections including additional ones such as 2 year warranty.
A part replaced under warranty would be covered by the original contract, ie that for purchase of the vehicle and also the warranty.
And the term in this country is 'full stop' !

Can't comment on the warranty.
But EGR's are only around £100 and take 15 minutes to fit so the answer is DIY.
