Hi, I've got a 1999 Saab 9-3 Turbo (LPT), and I would like to upgrade from my current 16" wheels to 17" ones.
Been looking on eBay and spotted a few that I like, but not sure of the specs I can go for.

    e.g.

    Tyre Width: 235
    Aspect Ratio: 45
    Studs: 5

When I look on tyre finder sites it gives me the following spec for my car:

    Tyre Width: 215
    Aspect Ratio: 45

Any rules on what I can go for?

    Thanks.
    Steve

You need to ensure that the overall diameter is roughly the same or you will have a speedo error (and possibly a risk of rubbing). 235/45/17 would read over 5% too slow. 215/45/17 is the best size with minimal (2.3%) error.

You also need to get the width and offset correct. In general terms most Saab wheels should be OK but if they're aftermarket you want around 7-7.5" width and an ET (offset) of 40-49mm.

    Thanks Mark.

Think I'll err on side of caution and go for 215/45/17 with 7" width.

There seems to be a few Vauxhall alloys that fit the bill that I could just swap badges on.

Just got to find some decent ones now...

225/45 17 tyres will probably be a lot cheaper as they are a more common size.

You could do worse than look at www.elitedirect.com
Total package...Karisma S wheels, Toyo PX4 225/45/17 tyres, bolts, locking bolts, plus postage and 17.5% vat cost me 693.
I replaced bloody awful 18" x 40 profile tyres and wheels.
Result ..Much better ride...Speedo reads 50mph actual speed according to satnav 48mph....at 75mph they both show the same reading as they do at 100mph ( for testing purposes only)
Very pleased with the wheel tyre combination on Hirsch sports suspension. NO rubbing at all (on MY car/setup)
Elite are prepared to spend time to help/advise.
    Regards, John Duggan

Thanks for your replies - I'll have a look at some 225/45/17 options. www.elitedirect.com has got some good deals on. Tempted to uprate my suspension now...
