Thread: 1.9 TiD Cam Belt & service intervals?

  1. #1
    More mundane questions. Sorry.

Is the 1.9TiD chain or belt camshaft drive? And if the latter, what is the replacement schedule?

Lastly, what is the general service schedule on 9-5 1.9?

I'm looking at a 9-5 with 55000 miles on it. Hate to have big bills as soon as I get it.

    Thanks.

MY06 9-5 1.9TiD is every 18,000 miles or 2 years. Cam Belt at 72,000 miles

MY07 onwards 9-5 1.9TiD is every 18,000 miles or 1 year. Cam Belt at 90,000 miles

    Just to clarify...

The 1.9 diesel has a chain driven camshaft and balance shaft. There is no planned service interval for changing the chains.

The belt drives the auxiliary items - aircon, water pump, alternator....

The Fiat sourced diesels are indeed all belt-driven (I have had both a Vectra 1.9 CDTi 16v and Alfa 156 2.4JTD). The Alfa was due a belt every 72,000 miles, can't remember the Vectra but 80,000 miles rings a bell. The GM 2.2TiD is a chain (as fitted to my MY2005 9-5), so no changes! Well, not planned ones anyhow!

I spoke to my dealer who has stated that all 1.9TID is a recommended 1 year service intervals on the 9-5, the two year is really for a 9-3. And he has stated this applies to all model years. Another dealer confirmed the same and as did Saab GB.

The service book for MY06 9-5 TiD says 2 years. All the others are one year and 9-5 TiD went back to 1 year for MY07 along with 9-3

Yes, this is why I queried it since the book recommended 2 years, and I noticed the service history book had a service recommendation penciled in as 12 months or 18,000 miles. When spoken to the dealer he stated that Saab recommended 12 months across all model years, but the 9-3 is still 2 years since I have a cousin who also has a 1.9TID and he has just had his first service carried out and the next one is in 2 years or 36K miles.

Well all 9-3's since MY07 are definatly every 18k or 1 year. Think your dealer is confused a little

Re: 1.9 TiD Cam Belt & service intervals?

Just read this thread. I do services every year on all my cars and oil and filter changes every 8000 miles. My wife is a bit insistant on this, and oil/filter is a small cost.
But what is the cambelt change interval for the MY07 9-3 1.9Tid? Is it 60K? Im sure that's what it is says in the service book.????
