I hope you knowledgeable people can help me out, my friend is over in Canada at the moment he has just bought a ’95 9000 2.3T and he wants me to source a relay for him
I don’t know the specific part but hopefully you’ll be able to point me in the right direction by the following description so I can order one.
Apparently there are two relays for the lights one large on (this is ok) and a smaller one (current one is orange) which sits next to it and he thinks controls the spots this is the relay I need to get for him.
Does anyone know which part he is talking about ie actual name or even better part number???
Thanks for your help

In a UK car there is a big red relay that actually switched the headlights on (dip and main, hence the double sized relay). The normal sized orange relay is the unit that monitors whether the headlights are working properly or whether a bulb is blown. A Saab dealer's parts dept will be able to supply it from this description, just remember to tell them that it's a Canadian market car, in case they are different to ours.
To be certain though, I would ask your friend to give you the part number from the existing unit.

Why does your friend need a replacement relay? What problem is he experiencing?
As MarkB says, the orange relay (labelled Lamp Control) is there to monitor for blown bulbs and it is not unusual for this to cause a problem. It suffers from bad solder joints which leads to one or more bulbs not working (I had left dipped beam go). Luckily it's an easy fix. Remove the relay, open it up and re-solder the joints. Several people have done this successfully and cheaply (even after buying a soldering-iron and solder). It's not a cheap relay to buy (over £70 new). If you do need a replacement then the Bay of e can normally help (search for Saab orange relay). As far as I'm aware the same relay is used in several Saab models and all over the world (i.e. no regional differences).

310043909185 on the bay of dreams is what you want if you need the orange relay. 300214625276 is the big red one (nothing to do with the US military).
