Title says it all mainly!
I have decided to be brave and change the rear discs and pads rather than pay the mechanic and all was going OK until I came to replace the old pads with new on the 2nd side.
I have turned the 4mm allen screw as far as it will go to retract the caliper piston but it has not retracted fully. I am concerned that continuing with force to turn the 4mm allen screw could do more damage.
Is this the right way to continue (with force) or is there some other fix?
I am following the instructions at www.saab9000.com which seem to be very accurate (even the colour of the car matches!)
Any help gratefully received.
Thanks
Bertie

Sounds like it's corroded/worn. You could try applying some compression to the caliper with water pump pliers whilst turning the screw but realistically (and safely) you're looking at a new caliper.

Thanks for that Bubbles,
I guess I'll be on the lookout for a new caliper then.

Just a quick question about calipers.
Does anyone happen to know if a caliper from a pre 94 9k would fit on a post 94 9k (and work!)
Saab have quoted £116 + Vat for a new one (p/n 7895337) and I am trying to avoid paying that much!
Thanks

You could try GSF Car Parts (www.gsfcarparts.com). Their rear calipers are about half that. They're not in a Saab box, but are probably made in the same factory

Have you tried ;
German and swedish ?
Always good prices for me (£65 for a rear hub bearing combo, SAAB wanted £120 plus Vat, bless them)

GSF are German and Swedish (the F is French).
Any 9000 rear caliper will fit, as will any MY88 onwards C900.

Thanks for those replies.
GSF is £59 (much cheaper) plus £30 surcharge refundable when I send them the old one. Is this common practice?

PS - I'm confused. My duff one is the drivers UK (off side). Is this the left or right and left or right as from looking at the front of the car or looking the way is normally travels? I don't want to get the wrong one!
PPS - Thanks Bubbles

Yes, surcharge is normal. Your old housing is refurbished. Indeed the caliper you buy will be likely as not a refurbished unit. The Saab price does not allow for refurbishing, and is brand new, hence the differential.
Offside in the UK is right hand.

Turbo Talker
£58 from Brakeparts.co.uk , so everyone is in the same ballpark.
