Hazard Switch has fallen into dashboard.

I have a 1997 Saab 9000 Turbo. The other day I needed to use my hazard lights so I pressed the hazard switch on the dash board and the entire switch fell into the dash board. I noticed that one other person has posted this problem but no one ever responded. What's the best way to fix this? Will I have to take out the entire dash board or should I try fish out the hazard switch. Does anyone know if this is a common problem?

I think it is quite a common problem, the retaining lip on the switch is way too thin - considering that most people quickly jab the switch in a hurry (cos there's a hazard). To fish it out try taking the clock or the heater control panel out.

My friendly local garaged managed to do this for me when I put it in for an MOT a couple of years ago ( Break it, not fix it !) I managed to fish it out with a piece of stiff wire the first time. Tried to reglue the trim ring back on but that only lasted a couple of uses. Next time I just took off the dash top to retrieve it. Not too difficult, just don't loose the 5mm washer from the right hand side bolt that is under the speaker grille.

i find the easiest way to get to the hazard switch is to take the clock unit out

easy, take out the ashtray, reach in and up and pop the ACC out.

then pop out the clock if you like, or just work thru the big ACC hole.

Hey, thanks for all the responses. I did mostly what you guys suggested. I took out the Air Conditioning and Heating Panel (it pops out easily) and then I found the hazard switch. It turns out that the switch had broken so thats why it fell into the dash. I guess I'll have to replace it. Thanks again for the responses.
