O.k. my 1995 saab 900 s has started to make a ringing/'ratteling noise up front while driving. I'm thinking maybe something is loose. But I'm also not to firmiliar with these cars to know what it could be. I bought the car used with about 107k on it. I've now put it over 110k in the last four months. Car runs good, I don't know where I've read it but I'm thinking the noise could be a bad rod bearing(I don't even know what rod bearing is) ?? Can someone confirm if that could be it?? Also if this is the case how do I fix it. Let me know ASAP so I can stop driving and harm the engine. Thanks for your help

Could it be the wear indicators on your front pads? I know some pads have a spring steel tab that contacts the disc when the pads get low makeing a loud noise. It`s not unsafe but a warning to get them changed

It usually makes the noise when I'm slowing down, It will also make the noise if I'm at a stand still and I rev the engine to over 3500rpm - 4000 rpm. I step on the gas pedal and then once it's coming down on rpm's it will make the noise. Please help as I would like to avoid costly repairs if I could do something about it now I would appreciate the help. If it is a rod bearing how can this be fixed, this is my first saab, I was mostly into air cooled veedubs. Please help

Change your upper idler pulley ASAP!! (Item #6 in the drawing)
When this goes you will lose your belt and will not have the ancillaries like the water pump, PS pump, etc working. Check the other pulleys while you're there.
Instructions here, but you don't need to do the mod...

Vincent thanks for the advise, I knew it couldn't be the rod bearing as a saab mechanic had told me before to change the pulley's. Good thing I bought them all already. I will install them this weekend and thanks for the peace of mind. You guys here at the saabscene are great full of info kind of people. Thanks again and wish me luck,
