Hi all
I've seen a few of these for sale recently and they seem to offer a 'half-way house' power increase...well, pretty lame for the RRP at any rate (£600 odd but now heavily discounted to around £230). 9-3 LPT from 150 to 170 and 9-5 to 192. Not a route I'd go down but I'm curious to know more. Anyone have one fitted or have literature? I believe it included a replacement ECU + different plugs....
Cheers

I am sure that there is someone here on SSc that has the 192bhp upgrade in their 9-5?

I'd love to know which kit you are talking about?

Hi
It's just the equivalent of Hirsch, Abbott, Speedparts, Nordic etc but offered by (and branded) Saab as a performance upgrade. Remapped ECU but with lesser gains than the aforementioned. Dealers still stock them but some are heavily discounting. I might sound clued up on this but that's all I know...honest. Anyone know more or have one fitted??
Here's a link to the ones sold at Elkparts http://www.elkparts.com/product_info.php/c...roducts_id/1955

I have a 1999 2.0 with the Saab 192bhp upgrade fitted. The kit includes the ECU and uprated injectors. Made a lot of difference to my car, although obscurely there was always a stutter round about 3500rpm but that disappeared a year or so ago and now it's smooth and trouble free. Mine was fitted at around about 93000 miles, and the car has now done 173000 (4 years motoring for me) - and it's still on the original turbo. The benefit is the fact that it doesn't run out of puff so easily - joining the motorway and accelerating in 4th to get up to speed with the traffic was a pointless exercise as it just stopped accelerating above 3500-4000rpm, ran out of boost. The only downside was that I remember thinking that it was slightly less smooth than when it was an LPT.
Definitely worth doing if you aren't paying the original full Saab RRP - mine was £150 on ebay, even at £250-300 it's cheaper than changing your car to get the extra punch.
Just one thing to bear in mind is that the extra power won't be terribly usable if the suspension is tired - I fitted an Eibach kit a few months after the performance upgrade simply to enable the performance to be used on twisty bits bits as well as in a straight line....

Hi Mike
Thanks for the info. The 192 version sounds much better value. I've had a look at these on Elkparts etc and they offer 150 to 170 for the T7 9-3 LPT yet it would appear that for the 9-5 2.0 LPT it's 150 to 192 (I take it yours is a 9-5 2.0, T5? Mike). There seem to be different products/versions for the 9-3 and the 9-5 with the 9-3 not getting the 192 'version' despite having the same engine.... I guess your could put the 9-5's 192 version into the 9-3 though, if they are both T7.
Cheers

Can't really answer your questions - but yes, mine is a 2.0 9-5. From 2001 on, I think the tuning kit takes the 9-5 from 150 to 185hp. Don't know why.

Cheers Mike
I think yours is T5 (red top DI) as for the T7 ones there's no mention of injectors....maybe this explains the 7bhp decrease over yours? Mines an auto. I contacted Elkparts re the kit and they said they didn't exist for automatics....which I find hard to believe.
Anyway, thanks for the info and pleased to hear you're happy with it. If anyone has literature to 'tidy' these details up, please let me know.
Cheers

All 9-5 4 cylinder models are T7 (black) cartridges

I think there has been some confusion here. As I understand it, you were advised that the part listed, by Saab, for a manual model was not suitable for automatic models.

Hi John
I was actually advised by Elkparts that Saab did not offer a Tuning Kit for automatic variants, only manual. Have yet to confirm this with any Saab dealer though. I was rather hoping that someone may have a Saab brochure for the Tuning Kit. At dealers today you can pick up some literature for the Hirsch upgrade so I would imagine similar literature would have existed 5 or so years ago.
It would appear that not many people know about the tuning kit and all I'm trying to do is find out a bit more. It may be a viable alternative to say Nordic etc but substantially cheaper as dealers with the odd kit are trying to shift them. The ones I have found are on Elkparts and on that carpartconnection site (on work pc so haven't the precise address at the moment). From Mike's comments, the kit sounds pretty good.
PS forgot that all 9-5s were T7 (getitng mixed up with the 9-3 )
Cheers

I believe you are mistaken. I have checked and this is not what was said.

Hi,
Just out of interest, where have you seen them for £230, I don't really want to spend the £500 odd on one of the higher power upgrades but this might just give me the little extra I need for modest outlay.
If you could let me know.
Thanks

Hi Mark
It was on here...www.carpartsconnexion.com/
Might take a while to find though! try a search under tuning kit or ecu and something should pop up. The dealer selling is in Eire and it's priced in euros.
Cheers
